Speed control of the V2 skating technique in elite cross-country skiers
2016
The aim was to examine how skiers control skiing speed using V2-skating. Subjects skied with three submaximal and maximal speeds on 100 m 4° uphill. Cycle variables and force parameters form the arms and legs were analysed. Cycle rate increased up to the maximum speed. Cycle length increased from the slowest speed to the all other speeds. Pole force and delta leg force increased up to the maximum speed. Ranges of motions and angular velocities of kick flexion and extension with knee and hip joints increased till highest submaximal speed. Speed was regulated with cycle length and rate while the latter was dominant after ∼5.0 m/s. Higher speed was reached with higher forces from arms and leg…
Atomism Revisited
2016
The ancient atomism inspires us to reconsider everything as being composed of indivisible entities, known today as quanta of actions. The quantum of light is the familiar single quantum in its open waveform. Likewise, any other physical action is a geometric notion in terms of energy and time. The quantized systems, e.g., elementary particles take forms of geodesics, i.e., paths of least action in quest for energetic balance with surrounding quanta. The fine-structure constant, as the ratio of two actions corresponding to the electron and neutrino, allows us to deduce unambiguously the characteristic symmetries of leptons, mesons, and baryons. We exemplify the quantized structures of photon…
Phenomenological and cosmological aspects of electroweak models beyond the Standard Model
2020

Quo vadis, internal auditing? A vision for internal auditing in 2030
2023
We aim to respond to calls in international auditing (IA) literature and to the current changes in the IA field by describing the driving forces and vision of the future for IA in the year 2030. The goal was to prompt in-depth discussion informed by the divergent views of experts. As a contribution, we identify three key driving forces: prolific data and its application, globalization and new value chains between organizations. Further, the study reports a vision for the future of IA. By surveying a wide range of stakeholders, including the board, management, internal auditors, teachers and a legislator, we expand on the views in earlier literature regarding IA, IA developments and the appl…
Relational dialectics in intercultural couples' relationships
2012
The main purpose of this study is to describe and to understand the intercultural couples’ relationships in Finland from the relational-dialectics perspective by Baxter and Montgomery (1996). Following the interpretive research tradition, in this qualitative study, data were collected from 18 heterosexual intercultural couples (36 persons), utilizing the multi-method approach. The multi-method approach in this study includes theme interviews (5 couples), concept map interviews (six couples) and e-mail interviews (seven couples). The data were analyzed following an inductive content analysis approach. The intercultural couples in this study experienced internal and external dialectics, relat…
Level structure above the 17+ isomeric state in 152 69 Tm83
2018
Excited states above the 17+ isomeric state in the proton-rich nucleus 152Tm were established by employing the recoil-isomer tagging technique. Data were collected using the JUROGAM gamma-ray array and the GREAT spectrometer together with the recoil ion transport unit (RITU) gas-filled recoil separator and analyzed to identify the prompt and delayed γ decays from the levels in 152Tm. Shell-model calculations, either in a large valence space or in a reduced model space with five protons in the π0h11/2 orbital and one neutron in the ν1f7/2 orbital, agree with the observed energies of the yrast levels up to angular momentum J = 21. The observation of near degeneracies in the energy spectrum ca…
Magnetic Field Control of Combustion Dynamics
2016
Abstract Experimental studies and mathematical modelling of the effects of magnetic field on combustion dynamics at thermo-chemical conversion of biomass are carried out with the aim of providing control of the processes developing in the reaction zone of swirling flame. The joint research of the magnetic field effect on the combustion dynamics includes the estimation of this effect on the formation of the swirling flame dynamics, flame temperature and composition, providing analysis of the magnetic field effects on the flame characteristics. The results of experiments have shown that the magnetic field exerts the influence on the flow velocity components by enhancing a swirl motion in the …
Role of Hemodynamic Forces in Unruptured Intracranial Aneurysms: An Overview of a Complex Scenario.
2017
Background An understanding of the natural history of unruptured intracranial aneurysms (IAs) has always played a critical role in presurgical or endovascular planning, to avoid possibly fatal events. Size, shape, morphology, and location are known risk factors for rupture of an aneurysm, but morphologic parameters alone may not be sufficient to perform proper rupture risk stratification. Methods We performed a systematic PubMed search and focused on hemodynamics forces that may influence aneurysmal initiation, growth, and rupture. Results We included 223 studies describing several hemodynamic parameters related to aneurysm natural history. In these studies, different modalities of aneurysm…
