The European media discourse on immigration and its effects: a literature review

To understand public opinion about immigration in Europe, one has to understand the media’s role in it. We present a literature review on research on media discourse on immigration and their effects. Despite differences in the way immigration and migrant groups are represented in European media, we can observe common patterns. Migrants are generally under-represented and shown as delinquents or criminals. Although, media framing differs based on specific migrant groups the discourse is focusing on, immigration coverage is often negative and conflict-centred. Abstract A reliable algorithm for target tracking based on dynamically adaptive correlation filtering is presented. The algorithm is capable of tracking with high accuracy the location of a target in an input video sequence without using an offline training process. The target is selected at the beginning of the algorithm. Afterwards, a composite correlation filter optimized for distortion tolerant pattern recognition is designed to recognize the target in the next frame. In this paper, we describe a novel approach for representing state information for the purpose of intention recognition in cooperative human-robot environments. States are represented by a combination of spatial relationships in a Cartesian frame along with cardinal direction information. This approach is applied to a manufacturing kitting operation, where humans and robots are working together to develop kits. Visually induced motion sickness is an unpleasant but common side-effect of many simulations and VR-applications. We investigated whether an earth-fixed reference frame provided in the simulation is able to reduce motion sickness. To do so, we created a moving starfield that did not contain any indicators of the spatial orientation of the observer. The observer wore a head-mounted display (HTC Vive) and was simulated to move through the randomly oscillating starfield, a time-to-contact task had to be carried out. The IEEE 802.11e extensions for QoS support in WLAN define the transmission opportunity (TXOP) concept, in order to limit the channel holding times of the contending stations in the presence of delay-sensitive traffic. We evaluate the use of TXOP for a different purpose: "temporal fairness" provisioning among stations employing different data rates. We show that the equalization of the channel access times allows each station to obtain its throughput basically (1) proportional to its transmission rate, and (2) independent of the transmitted frame length. Learning from Errors: Detecting ZigBee Interference in WiFi Networks

In this work we show how to detect ZigBee interference on commodity WiFi cards by monitoring the reception errors, such as synchronization errors, invalid header formats, too long frames, etc., caused by ZigBee transmissions. Indeed, in presence of non-WiFi modulated signals, the occurrence of these types of errors follows statistics that can be easily recognized. The objective of this paper is to provide an illustrative feedback on development of Open Source software among several partners. We describe the first stage of the design of a specific software package, namely a customized Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) for biology applications. This software package is structured in several modules which are reusable and can be customized for other applications. In this paper, we address the problem of multi-licensing for the same software tools due to the participation of several partners, the reuse of code source, and the subsequent distribution of this produced software.
