Predictive factors of severity and persistence of oropharyngeal dysphagia in sub-acute stroke.

2020

Purpose: This study aims to understand the factors contributing to the severity of oropharyngeal dysphagia and its persistence in the sub-acute phase of stroke. Methods: We retrospectively collected the data of all the patients suffering from a stroke in the last year. The severity of stroke was reported according to the NIHSS score. All the patients were evaluated with the Dysphagia Risk Score and with a FEES. We classified the Dysphagia Risk Score and FEES results using the PAS score and ASHA-NOMS levels. The data were analysed statistically with ANOVA test, Student’s t test and Pearson’s correlation coefficient. Results: A series of 54 patients were evaluated. The ANOVA test did not find…

Postoperative nausea and vomiting in patients after craniotomy: incidence and risk factors

2011

Object The purpose of this study was to assess the incidence and risk factors of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) after craniotomy because most available data about PONV in neurosurgical patients are retrospective in nature or derive from small prospective studies. Methods Postoperative nausea and vomiting was prospectively assessed within 24 hours after surgery in 229 patients requiring supratentorial or infratentorial craniotomy. To rule out the relevance of the neurosurgical procedure itself to the development of PONV, the observed incidence of vomiting was compared with the rate of vomiting predicted with a surgery-independent risk score (Apfel postoperative vomiting score). Re…

276 Evaluation of cardiovascular risk and factors associated to risk under-evaluation in general practice

2011

Correlation between perceived cardiovascular risk (CVR) by physicians and real CVR is poorly known. Moreover, the underlying question of factors associated to risk misevaluation, especially for patients at high CVR and that could benefit of a lipid lowering therapy (LLT), remains unsolved. Objective and methodology This was an on-line non-interventional study conducted on a sample of 619 general practitioners. The aim was to describe the relation between physicians evaluated CVR and calculated CVR according to risk's scales. All consulting patients’ aged50 years old (YO) were included. Physicians had to complete a questionnaire and to assess patient's CVR on a 3 level scale (low, medium, an…

013 Pre-infarction angina and cardiovascular complications in non ST segment elevation myocardial infarction: Data from the RICO survey

2010

BackgroundThe presence of preinfarction angina (PIA) has been shown to confer cardioprotection after ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (MI). However, the impact of PIA in non ST segment elevation (NSTEMI) remains to be determined.Patients and MethodsFrom the obseRvatoire des Infarctus de Côte d’Or (RICO) survey, 1541 consecutive patients admitted in intensive care unit with a first NSTEMI were included in the study. Patients who experienced chest pain 1) and 30-day mortality were collected.ResultsAmong the 1541 patients included in the study, 693 patients presented PIA. Baseline clinical characteristics were similar for the 2 groups. There was no significant difference for the GRAC…

Derivation and Validation of a Chronic Total Coronary Occlusion Intervention Procedural Success Score From the 20,000-Patient EuroCTO Registry

2019

Abstract Objectives The aim was to establish a contemporary scoring system to predict the outcome of chronic total occlusion coronary angioplasty. Background Interventional treatment of chronic total coronary occlusions (CTOs) is a developing subspecialty. Predictors of technical success or failure have been derived from datasets of modest size. A robust scoring tool could facilitate case selection and inform decision making. Methods The study analyzed data from the EuroCTO registry. This prospective database was set up in 2008 and includes >20,000 cases submitted by CTO expert operators (>50 cases/year). Derivation (n = 14,882) and validation (n = 5,745) datasets were created to develop a …

Clinical Role of CA125 in Worsening Heart Failure

2020

Abstract Objectives The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between antigen carbohydrate 125 (CA125) and the risk of 1-year clinical outcomes in patients with worsening heart failure (HF). Background CA125 is a widely available biomarker that is up-regulated in patients with acute HF and has been postulated as a useful marker of congestion and risk stratification. Methods In a large multicenter cohort of patients with worsening HF, either in-hospital or in the outpatient setting, the independent associations between CA125 and 1-year death and the composite of death/HF readmission (adjusted for outcome-specific prognostic risk score [BIOSTAT risk score]) were determined by usin…
