Pesticide doses, landscape structure and their relative effects on farmland birds
2014
International audience; tAgricultural changes related to the intensification of farming practices and the simplification of land-scape elements often occur simultaneously. Their respective effects on biodiversity are thus difficult todisentangle and are poorly understood. This study assessed the relative contribution of each componentof agricultural intensification on taxonomic and functional bird communities. The bird communities studied were composed of 70 species, both farmland and non-farmland birds, found in 66 fields covering three main cereal departments of France. Herbicide dose was related to mea-surable negative effects on the Community Specialization Index (CSI). Overall, the propo…
Genes of Secondary Metabolism: Differential Expression in Plants and In Vitro Cultures and Functional Expression in Genetically Transformed Microorga…
1989
Plants had to develop strategies for defence against microorganisms and herbivores during evolution. The evolution of chemical defence, i.e. the production of the so-called secondary products can be regarded as one of the most important means in this context (Swain 1977, Rosenthal and Janzen 1979, Wink 1988). Since secondary metabolites evolved as biologically active compounds, it is not surprising that man has found a use for many of them, e.g. as medicinal agents, flavours, spices, colours, stimulants, hallucinogens, or pesticides. As a consequence, quite a number of secondary plant products are of economical importance.
Screening of hereditary spastic paraplegia patients for alterations at NIPA1 mutational hotspots.
2008
Item does not contain fulltext Mutations in NIPA1 cause hereditary spastic paraplegia type 6 (SPG6 HSP). Sequencing of the whole gene has revealed alterations of either of two nucleotides in eight of nine SPG6 HSP families reported to date. By analysing CpG methylation, we provide a mechanistic explanation for a mutational hotspot to underlie frequent alteration of one of these nucleotides. We also developed PCR RFLP assays to detect recurrent NIPA1 changes and screened 101 independent HSP patients, including 45 index patients of autosomal dominant HSP families. Our negative finding in this cohort for which several other causes of HSP had been excluded suggests NIPA1 alterations at mutation…
POSS-based 3D functional networks as catalysts for the conversion of carbon dioxide
2023
The oxamate route, a versatile post-functionalization for metal incorporation in MIL-101(Cr): Catalytic applications of Cu, Pd, and Au
2013
Abstract A new consecutive post-functionalization method has been developed for the inclusion of additional metal functionalities in Metal Organic Frameworks (MOFs) through oxamate as chelating agent. This may result in catalytic centers of metal–organic complexes or in controlled formation of metal nanoparticles, demonstrated for Cu, Pd and Au, in the highly stable MIL-101(Cr) framework. In a first post-synthesis step, reduction of the NO 2 -MIL-101(Cr) leads to the formation of NH 2 -MIL-101(Cr). The second functionalization consists of a straightforward condensation of the amino groups of the ligand with ethyl chloro-oxoacetate resulting in the formation of free oxamates attached to the …
New Hybrid Organic-inorganic Multifunctional Materials Based on Polydopamine-like Chemistry
2021
Taking inspiration from the chemistry of dopamine, a simple and economic synthetic approach toward the synthesis of a series of silica-based polydopamine-like materials has been developed. Mild conditions and easy manipulation are the strongest aspects of this methodology. Such hybrid materials were successfully used as recyclable catalysts for Knoevenagel reactions.
Absorption by black hole remnants in metric-affine gravity
2019
Using numerical methods, we investigate the absorption properties of a family of nonsingular solutions {which arise in different metric-affine theories, such as quadratic and Born-Infeld gravity.} These solutions continuously interpolate between Schwarzschild black holes and naked solitons with wormhole topology. The resulting spectrum is characterized by a series of quasibound states excitations, associated with the existence of a stable photonsphere.
The Complete Solution of the Classical SL(2,ℝ/U(1) Gauged WZNW Field Theory
1998
We prove that any gauged WZNW model has a Lax pair representation, and give explicitly the general solution of the classical equations of motion of the SL(2,R)/U(1) theory. We calculate the symplectic structure of this solution by solving a differential equation of the Gelfand-Dikii type with initial state conditions at infinity, and transform the canonical physical fields non-locally onto canonical free fields. The results will, finally, be collected in a local B\"acklund transformation. These calculations prepare the theory for an exact canonical quantization.
On AdS7 stability
2019
AdS$_7$ supersymmetric solutions in type IIA have been classified, and they are infinitely many. Moreover, every such solution has a non-supersymmetric sister. In this paper, we study the perturbative and non-perturbative stability of these non-supersymmetric solutions, focusing on cases without orientifolds. Perturbatively, we first look at the KK spectrum of spin-2 excitations. This does not exhibit instabilities, but it does show that there is no separation of scales for either the BPS and the non-BPS case, thus proving for supersymmetric AdS$_7$ a well-known recent conjecture. We then use 7d gauged supergravity and a brane polarization computation to access part of the spectrum of KK sc…
Finite size spectrum of SU(N) principal chiral field from discrete Hirota dynamics
2016
Using recently proposed method of discrete Hirota dynamics for integrable (1+1)D quantum field theories on a finite space circle of length L, we derive and test numerically a finite system of nonlinear integral equations for the exact spectrum of energies of SU(N)xSU(N) principal chiral field model as functions of m L, where m is the mass scale. We propose a determinant solution of the underlying Y-system, or Hirota equation, in terms of determinants (Wronskians) of NxN matrices parameterized by N-1 functions of the spectral parameter, with the known analytical properties at finite L. Although the method works in principle for any state, the explicit equations are written for states in the …
