Measurement ofD0−D¯0mixing using the ratio of lifetimes for the decaysD0→K−π+andK+K−

2009

We present a measurement of ${D}^{0}\mathrm{\text{\ensuremath{-}}}{\overline{D}}^{0}$ mixing and $CP$ violation using the ratio of lifetimes simultaneously extracted from a sample of ${D}^{0}$ mesons produced through the flavor-tagged process ${D}^{*+}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{D}^{0}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}$, where ${D}^{0}$ decays to ${K}^{\ensuremath{\mp}}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}$, ${K}^{\ensuremath{-}}{K}^{+}$, or ${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}$, along with the untagged decays ${D}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{K}^{\ensuremath{\mp}}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}$ and ${D}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{K}^{\ensuremath{-}}{K}…

Measurement of the semileptonic charge asymmetry in B-0 meson mixing with the D0 detector

2012

We present a measurement of the semileptonic mixing asymmetry for B0 mesons, a^d_{sl}, using two independent decay channels: B0 -> mu+D-X, with D- -> K+pi-pi-; and B0 -> mu+D*-X, with D*- -> antiD0 pi-, antiD0 -> K+pi- (and charge conjugate processes). We use a data sample corresponding to 10.4 fb^{-1} of ppbar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV, collected with the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. We extract the charge asymmetries in these two channels as a function of the visible proper decay length (VPDL) of the B0 meson, correct for detector-related asymmetries using data-driven methods, and account for dilution from charge-symmetric processes using Monte Car…

Toroidal magnetized iron neutrino detector for a neutrino factory

2013

A neutrino factory has unparalleled physics reach for the discovery and measurement of CP violation in the neutrino sector. A far detector for a neutrino factory must have good charge identification with excellent background rejection and a large mass. An elegant solution is to construct a magnetized iron neutrino detector (MIND) along the lines of MINOS, where iron plates provide a toroidal magnetic field and scintillator planes provide 3D space points. In this paper, the current status of a simulation of a toroidal MIND for a neutrino factory is discussed in light of the recent measurements of large theta(13). The response and performance using the 10 GeV neutrino factory configuration ar…

High intensity neutrino oscillation facilities in Europe

2013

The EUROnu project has studied three possible options for future, high intensity neutrino oscillation facilities in Europe. The first is a Super Beam, in which the neutrinos come from the decay of pions created by bombarding targets with a 4 MW proton beam from the CERN High Power Superconducting Proton Linac. The far detector for this facility is the 500 kt MEMPHYS water Cherenkov, located in the Frejus tunnel. The second facility is the Neutrino Factory, in which the neutrinos come from the decay of mu(+) and mu(-) beams in a storage ring. The far detector in this case is a 100 kt magnetized iron neutrino detector at a baseline of 2000 km. The third option is a Beta Beam, in which the neu…

Impact of squark generation mixing on the search for squarks decaying into fermions at LHC

2010

We study the effect of squark generation mixing on squark production and decays at LHC in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). We show that the effect can be very large despite the very strong constraints on quark flavour violation (QFV) from experimental data on B mesons. We find that the two lightest up-type squarks su_{1,2} can have large branching ratios for the decays into 'c-quark + neutralino_1' and 't-quark + neutralino_1' at the same time due to squark generation mixing, leading to QFV signals 'pp -> c bar{t} (t bar{c}) + missing-E_T + X' with a significant rate. The observation of this remarkable signature would provide a powerful test of supersymmetric QFV at LHC.…

Study ofB→DsJ(*)+D¯(*)Decays

2004

We report a study of D-sJ(*)(2317)(+) and D-sJ(2460)(+) meson production in B decays. We observe the decays B+--> D-sJ((*)+)(D) over bar ((*)0) and B-0 --> DsJ(*)+D(*)- with the subsequent decays D-sJ(*)(2317)(+)-->D(s)(+)pi(0), D-sJ(2460)(+)-->D(s)(+)gamma, and D-sJ(2460)(+)-->D(s)(*+)pi(0). Based on a data sample of 122.1x10(6) B(B) over bar pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II B factory, we obtain branching fractions for these modes, including the previously unseen decays B-->(DsJ(*)+D*). In addition, we perform an angular analysis of D-sJ(2460)(+)-->D(s)(+)gamma decays to test the different D-sJ(2460)(+) spin hypotheses.

Priming effects of an olfactory food cue on subsequent food-related behaviour

2013

International audience; Studies in cognitive psychology have highlighted a link between perception and action, by revealing the non-conscious influence that a cue can have on thinking and doing. The present study aimed at exploring whether an olfactory food cue could have an impact on food choices. We chose fruity odours as olfactory food cues, in order to examine if this kind of olfactory cue could lead individuals to choose fruit and vegetables. In the first experiment, 58 participants were assigned randomly to either a control or a melon-scent condition. In the melon-scent condition, they were unobtrusively exposed to a melon odorant in a waiting room, while in the control condition the …

Glutathione conjugation of the rabbit mammary pheromone 2-methylbut-2-enal

2008

International audience; In the process of smell, the olfactory signal is initiated by the binding of odorous molecules to olfactory receptors. In the receptor environment, associated events are supposed to modulate this signal. Thus, the xenobiotic metabolizing enzymes, potentially involved in the clearance of the odorous molecules, could modulate the availability of these molecules for the olfactory receptors, and consequently could participate indirectly in the olfactory signal termination. A mammary pheromone, which is an odorous aldehyde (2-methylbut-2-enal or 2MB2) has been recently characterized in the rabbit by our group. The aim of this work was to elucidate the metabolism of 2MB2 in …

Les récepteurs olfactifs et le codage des odeurs

2008

The first step of the olfactory detection involves the activation by odorants of olfactory receptors, which are membrane proteins embedded in the membrane of olfactory neurons. Odour coding results from the combinatory activation of a set of receptors and rests on their clonal expression. Neuronal olfactory connexion leads to the formation, in the cortex, of a specific sensory map, which gives rise to the odor perception. This combinatorial system allows, with approximately 340 different receptors, to discriminate myriads of odorants that are natural or not (new cooking flavours, synthetic chemicals…). The extreme olfactory genome diversity in human beings may explain different food behavio…
