Performance Analysis of Cooperative V2V and V2I Communications Under Correlated Fading

2019

Cooperative vehicular networks will play a vital role in the coming years to implement various intelligent transportation-related applications. Both vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communications will be needed to reliably disseminate information in a vehicular network. In this regard, a roadside unit (RSU) equipped with multiple antennas can improve the network capacity. While the traditional approaches assume antennas to experience independent fading, we consider a more practical uplink scenario where antennas at the RSU experience correlated fading. In particular, we evaluate the packet error probability for two renowned antenna correlation models, i.e., cons…

Simultaneous harvest-and-transmit ambient backscatter communications under Rayleigh fading

2019

Ambient backscatter communications is an emerging paradigm and a key enabler for pervasive connectivity of low-powered wireless devices. It is primarily beneficial in the Internet of things (IoT) and the situations where computing and connectivity capabilities expand to sensors and miniature devices that exchange data on a low power budget. The premise of the ambient backscatter communication is to build a network of devices capable of operating in a battery-free manner by means of smart networking, radio frequency (RF) energy harvesting and power management at the granularity of individual bits and instructions. Due to this innovation in communication methods, it is essential to investigat…

Blind source separation for OFDM with filtering colored noise out

2011

Two blind algorithms that are developed with the intention of improving the symbol detection of Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) techniques are proposed in this paper. OFDM systems are easy to equalize in implementations. The schemes are based on the theories of blind source separation (BSS). They are among the premier mechanisms used for extracting unobserved signals from observed mixtures in signal processing. In this study noise component of the received signal mixture is tried to be filtered out. A scalar energy function with the iterative fixed point rule for receive signal is used in determining the filter coefficients while taking the time correlation properties of t…

On the Consistency of Non-Stationary Multipath Fading Channels with Respect to the Average Doppler Shift and the Doppler Spread

2017

This paper is concerned with the consistency of non-stationary multipath fading channels. We introduce conditions under which a channel model is consistent w.r.t. the average Doppler shift and the Doppler spread. The conditions are applied to two classes of non-stationary channel models. The first class, which is termed Class A, is characterized by channel models based on an integral relationship between the path phases and the associated time-variant Doppler frequencies. The second class of models, called the Class B models, emerges from standard sum-of-cisoids (SOC) models by replacing the time-independent Doppler frequencies by time-dependent Doppler frequencies. It is shown that the Cla…

Fading mitigation coding techniques for space to ground free space optical communications (Euro Med Telco 2014)

2014

In this manuscript, a Geostationary satellite-toground Free Space Optics (FSO) downlink channel model has been implemented, which is able to predict temporal irradiance fluctuations caused by scintillation at a wide range of turbulence conditions and for different values of the zenith angle. In order to mitigate fading events that occur in FSO communications, we have also tested the performance of three different families of Rateless Codes (Luby Transform, Raptor and RaptorQ) into our model and found that RaptorQ is the best candidate to mitigate errors in FSO links.

A measurement-based channel model for vehicular communications in tunnels

2014

Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC), 2014 IEEE, Istanbul, TURQUIE, 06-/04/2014 - 09/04/2014; In this paper, we present a new version of the iterative nonlinear least square approximation (INLSA) algorithm for the design of measurement-based channel simulators. The proposed method aims to match the time-variant impulse response (TVIR) of the simulation model to that of the measured channel. The propagation delays are discerned directly from the measurements, whereas the gains, the Doppler frequencies, and the phases are computed iteratively by minimizing a matching error norm. We evaluate the performance of the proposed method in terms of the approximation of the transfe…

On the Statistical Properties of the Capacity of Spatially Correlated Nakagami-M MIMO Channels

2008

This paper studies the statistical properties of the channel capacity of spatially correlated Nakagami-m multiple- input multiple-output (MIMO) channels. We have derived closed- form expressions for the probability density function (PDF), the cumulative distribution function (CDF), the level-crossing rate (LCR), and the average duration of fades (ADF) of the lower bound on the channel capacity. In order to study the impact of the spatial correlation on the channel capacity, the analysis of the statistical properties of the channel capacity is carried out for different receiver antenna spacings. It is observed that the antenna spacing has a significant influence on the spread and maximum val…

The Impact of Shadowing and the Severity of Fading on the First and Second Order Statistics of the Capacity of OSTBC MIMO Nakagami-Lognormal Channels

2011

Published version of an article in Wireless Personal Communications (2011), 1-16. Also available from the publisher at http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s11277-011-0275-x This article presents a thorough statistical analysis of the capacity of orthogonal space-time block coded (OSTBC) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) Nakagami- lognormal (NLN) channels. The NLN channel model allows to study the joint effects of fast fading and shadowing on the statistical properties of the channel capacity. We have derived exact analytical expressions for the probability density function (PDF), cumulative distribution function (CDF), level-crossing rate (LCR), and average duration of fades (ADF) of the capacity…

On the statistical properties of the capacity of sparse multipath fading channels

2014

Most existing works in wireless communications assume rich scattering. However, there is growing experimental evidence that physical wireless channels can exhibit a sparse structure. By assuming an asymmetric Doppler power spectral density (PSD), we can model and simulate sparse channels by using a finite sum of weighted complex harmonic functions, also called sum of cisoids (SOC). In this paper, we focus on the analysis of the statistical properties of the instantaneous capacity of sparse SOC-based multipath fading channels under line-of-sight (LOS) conditions. The probability density function (PDF), the cumulative distribution function (CDF), the level-crossing rate (LCR), and the average…

Statistical Analysis of the Channel Capacity Outage Intervals in Massive MIMO Systems with OSTBC over Rayleigh Fading Channels

2015

This paper studies approximate solutions for the statistical properties of the outage intervals of the instantaneous capacity in massive multiple- input multiple- output (MIMO) sys- tems with orthogonal space-time block code (OSTBC) over Rayleigh fading channels. We take advantage from the fact that the probability density function (PDF) of the channel power gain can be approximated by a left-truncated Gaussian distribution if the number of transmit and receive antennas is large. Assuming a symmetrical Doppler power spectral density (PSD), a closed- form expression is presented for the Rice probability function of the outage durations. This function, in general, approximates the PDF of the …
