Innovating European Long-Term Care Policies through the Socio-Economic Support of Families: A Lesson from Practices
2022
LTC and socio-economic deprivation of families are two relevant issues in international debate. The economic or time investment made by families in caregiving has an impact on the socio-economic status of family members in terms of economic means and social inclusion. This study analyzes the practices that are supported by home LTC, examining their characteristics, identifying their strengths, weaknesses, drivers, and barriers, as well as identifying social innovation aspects. The study provides a qualitative interpretative comparison of 22 practices from eight countries, representing the four LTC care models existing in Europe. Cross-studies aid in the development of sustainable policies. …

The Lasting Influences of Early Food-Related Variety Experience: A Longitudinal Study of Vegetable Acceptance from 5 Months to 6 Years in Two Populat…
2016
International audience; Children's vegetable consumption falls below current recommendations, highlighting the need to identify strategies that can successfully promote better acceptance of vegetables. Recently, experimental studies have reported promising interventions that increase acceptance of vegetables. The first, offering infants a high variety of vegetables at weaning, increased acceptance of new foods, including vegetables. The second, offering an initially disliked vegetable at 8 subsequent meals markedly increased acceptance for that vegetable. So far, these effects have been shown to persist for at least several weeks. We now present follow-up data at 15 months, 3 and 6 years ob…

Psychological inflexibility explains distress in parents whose children have chronic conditions
2018
Experiential avoidance, cognitive defusion, and mindfulness have all been associated with psychological disorders and well-being. This study investigates whether they predict psychological distress, i.e., symptoms of burnout, depression, stress and anxiety, in parents of children with chronic conditions. We hypothesized that these factors would exhibit a large degree of common variance, and that when compared to mindfulness and defusion, experiential avoidance on its own would predict a larger proportion of unique variance. 75 parents of children with chronic conditions having burnout symptoms who participated in an intervention study completed measures of burnout, stress, anxiety, depressi…
Scuola, famiglia e bisogni di riconoscimento. Una sfida etica
2019
The essay aims at highlighting the educational co-responsibility between school and family as mutual recognition path. The theoretical reference of the reflection are the writings of the philosopher P. Ricoeur on this issue. More precisely, the paper intends first to clarify the meaning of the phrase "recognition needs", taking childhood experience as a model of human experience in general; then, to show how recognition needs of the child call for corresponding responsibilities educational. Therefore, the contemporary difficulties in relations between school and family can be seen in light of incapacity of parents to take specific care of one of the two needs of recognition of their childre…

2020
What is the reputation of the school and university in our society? What social credibility do they have? At first glance, it seems necessary to answer that the two main educational institutions do not enjoy a good reputation and this for a series of reasons, two of which have particular pedagogical importance: the typical mistrust of our time towards any form of institutionalization and devaluation care work. Certainly here we can see the signs of the moral fragility of our time, linked to the questioning of all forms of authority. Although it is therefore common today to talk about the importance of educational corresponsibility between school and family, there are numerous gestures that …

2022
In line with the very latest national and international literature on the effects of the pandemic in educational contexts, the paper presents a research into the lived experiences and points of view of some Sicilian parents and teachers. Adopting a phenomenological-hermeneutic methodology, the narrations of the participants were collected and then analysed by focusing on the mutual representations, meanings of co-responsibility and and co-constructed learning during the pandemic. Indeed, we will try to highlight how, from the voices of schools and families that have been forced to collaborate within the virtual space and the contracted pandemic time, new possible perspectives of meaning and…
