Famiglie, disagio e servizio sociale
2019
The volume collects contributions that intend to reveal the social and cultural nature of the family.
Family and teacher’s perception about the effects of Aprender a Convivir en Casa pilot program
2019
Several studies in the last decades provide scientific evidence about the benefits of family intervention at an early age. Carried out the implementation of the Aprender a Convivir en Casa [Learning to Live Together at Home] program (ACC), aimed for Spanish families with preschoolers to prevent behavioural problems, juvenile delinquency and harassment, as well as promote an optimal family functioning and parenting wellbeing; the aim of this study is to compare the effects on pre-schooler’s adaptive skills and behavioural problems through the BASC-P1 and BASC-T1, parents and teachers respectively. Parents of 18 three to five-year-old children participated in the study, 9 parents were assigne…
We study the one-party political families of the Franco dictatorship in the late forties and fifties. We analyze the trajectory of Ruiz-Giménez, minister of education between 1951 and 1956, the university reforms introduced and the "concerns" of students in the generation of th…
Children’s Public Participation, Middle-Class Families and Emotions
2014
The article examines the activities of a municipal children's parliament (the TCP) in a middle-sized Finnish town. The article focuses on members of the TCP board and their parents and the emphasis is on parents' views as very little research exists on family background in relation to children's public participation. All the participating families were middle-class, both as self-defined and according to their socioeconomic background. The parents studied detailed different emotions they and their children experienced as members of the children's parliament. The article illustrates that being a middle-class child and participating in civic activities is not an uncomplicated description of pr…
Ancient Haplotypes at the 15q24.2 Microdeletion Region Are Linked to Brain Expression of MAN2C1 and Children's Intelligence
2016
The chromosome bands 15q24.1-15q24.3 contain a complex region with numerous segmental duplications that predispose to regional microduplications and microdeletions, both of which have been linked to intellectual disability, speech delay and autistic features. The region may also harbour common inversion polymorphisms whose functional and phenotypic manifestations are unknown. Using single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) data, we detected four large contiguous haplotype-genotypes at 15q24 with Mendelian inheritance in 2,562 trios, African origin, high population stratification and reduced recombination rates. Although the haplotype-genotypes have been most likely generated by decreased or abse…
Contextual analysis of home environment factors influencing the acquisition of early reading skills in Zambian families
2014
This study examined the effect of home environment factors in the acquisition of early reading skills (orthographic awareness and decoding competence). To assess these factors, a sample of seventy-two (72) first grade learners (females = 55%; age range = 7–8 years) and their maternal parents (age range 26–61 years old) from low SES in Zambia's capital city, Lusaka were recruited. Parents, in response to a home literacy questionnaire, reported on their attitudes towards reading, literacy teaching in the home, the home literacy environment, presence of reading materials for adults and children, parental education, occupation, family size and family possessions. Two measures of reading skill w…
Human papillomavirus:Its identikit and controversial role in oral oncogenesis, premalignant an malignant lesions(Review)
2007
Human papillomaviruses (HPVs) are a group of host-specific DNA viruses, with a remarkable epithelial cell specificity: they have been reported principally in the ano-genital tract, urethra, skin, larynx, tracheo-bronchial and oral mucosa. More than 100 different HPV types have been identified and classified as high (e.g. 16, 18, 31) or low (e.g. 11, 42, 36) -risk (HR and LR), based on their association with cervical carcinoma. The carcinogenic role of HR-HPV revolves mainly around two of its oncoproteins: HPV-E6 which promotes degradation of the p53 tumour suppressor gene product and HPV-E7 which modifies the pRb tumour suppressor gene product, inhibiting the activity of TGF-beta2. Since th…
Born to Be Different: LGBTQ2 Children of Heterosexual Families
2022
This chapter aims to challenge heterosexual norms in society by analyzing heterosexual families when confronted with the coming out of one of their children. Starting with the essentialist construction of identities and gender norms supported by the symbolic structure of the natural and traditional (straight) family, we reconstruct paths and dynamics of the response that heterosexual parents give to their LGBTQ2 children. Specifically, this contribution outlines the characteristics of the disclosure processes of homosexual children and the related reactions to such shocking and disorienting events of their families. Finally, we offer parents some good practices to react well and be welcomin…
PLURALISMO JURÍDICO E A DIFUSÃO DOS DIREITOS
2014
The purpose of this essay is to describe how a pluralistic view of law reshapes the current legal discourse. The focus will be particularly on: sources of law, legal families and legal traditions, and legal transplants. While the traditional account based on State law and on a sharp opposition of legal/non legal and official/unofficial law proved to be untrustworthy and oversimplifying, the proposed conceptualization helps to outline the distinction in a more nuanced and realistic way
