Indications for Computer-Assisted Surgery in Otorhinolaryngology

1998

Indications for the use of computer-assisted surgery (CAS) in otorhinolaryngology can be grouped into several domains including the following: difficult cases involving the anterior, middle, and posterior skull base, especially the rhinobasis or laterobasis, and diseases of the petrous bone, the infratemporal fossa, the retromaxillar space, and the orbit; extended paranasal sinus surgery and revision cases with surgically altered anatomic landmarks; and use for educational purposes where CAS can provide better instruction in surgical anatomy by relating the surgical field to radiological sectional images. A new field for CAS is surgery of the inferior neck soft tissues or pathologic process…

Work–Family Practices and Complexity of Their Usage: A Discourse Analysis Towards Socially Responsible Human Resource Management

2020

AbstractThe question of work–family practices commonly arises in both theory and daily practice as a matter of responsibility in today’s organisations. More information is needed about them for socially responsible human resource management (SR-HRM). In this article our interest is in how work–family practices, serve as an important element of SR-HRM, constructed as (un)helpful for employees’ work–family integration, are realised in organisational life. We investigate the discursive ways in which members of two different organisations working at different organisational levels construct the issue in the Finnish context. Three discourses were interpreted: (1) a discourse of compliance with e…

Digital or In-Person: The Relationship Between Mode of Interpersonal Communication During the COVID-19 Pandemic and Mental Health in Older Adults Fro…

2021

Social distancing has limited the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), but also changed communication patterns. However, studies of how mental health in older adults relates to the usage of different modes of interpersonal communication are sparse. The aim of this study was to analyze how COVID-19-related changes in the frequencies of using different modes of communication (digital or in-person) have influenced mental health in older adults from 27 countries. Our study was based on part of Wave 8 of the SHARE data set, which focused on the living situation of older adults during the pandemic. Findings suggest that in-person communication benefited mental health in people aged ≥60 years mo…

Normative scores for the Timed UpGo in a Spanish sample of community-dweller adults with preserved functionality.

2021

Our aim was to calculate the ‘Timed Up & Go’ (TUG) normative scores in a Spanish sample composed of functional older adults. The TUG test provides a measure of global ambulation skills and its total score has been successfully related with functionality and other important health variables in older adults. Reliable norms are needed for adults 50 years and older that allow the early identification and intervention in motor disturbances. The study was carried out with adults from Galicia and Valencia living in the community. A total of 314 Spanish community-living participants, aged from 50 to 90 years and functionality preserved were assessed through the implementation of a cross-sectional d…

Periphere arterielle Verschlusskrankheit

2011
