Congenital hypothyroidism occurs with a prevalence of approximately 1:3 500. Defects in thyroid hormone synthesis which lead to goitrous hypothyroidism account for 10-15% of these cases. Several genetic defects have been characterized and mutations in the thyroid peroxidase (TPO) gene are the most common cause for dyshormonogenesis.So far, more than 80 mutations in the TPO gene have been described, resulting in a variable decrease in TPO bioactivity. Using a conceptual model that integrates both social and biomedical factors of causation, this paper tries to delineate the pathways through which the reproductive characteristics of a multidenominational community are characterized. In total, 5513 historical entries from family reconstitution were available. Selection of data was guided by the inclusion of information about religious affiliation. Only married couples with children as well as single mothers with the relevant information were considered. Patients and methods This prospective follow-up study involved 2588 non-diabetic, hypertensive patients. Tacrolimus is a substrate of cytochrome P4503A (CYP3A) enzymes as well as of the drug transporter ABCB1. We have investigated the possible influence of CYP3A5 and ABCB1 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and other factors (e.g. albumin, hematocrit and steroids) on tacrolimus blood levels achieved in a population of Caucasian liver (n=51) and kidney (n=50) transplant recipients. Aims To evaluate the prevalence and possible etiological and aggravating factors of acne in adult population. In the caregiving model of chronic stress, few studies have been conducted with young middle-aged samples and no data exists about acute stress response in this population. Children of parents with cancer: a collaborative project between a child psychiatry clinic and an adult oncology clinic.

This article describes the development of a collaborative relationship between a child psychiatry clinic and an adult oncology clinic within a university hospital. The interest of the child psychiatry clinic was to pay attention to children of parents with cancer, and to propose an intervention to support them. A child-centred family counselling model was designed for this purpose. The preparation, implementation, and results of this project are described. Positive results, as well as mistakes and failures are discussed, and recommendations are made regarding this kind of collaboration.
