Analysis of climatic data and forecast indices for human fascioliasis at very high altitude

Human infection with Fasciola hepatica has recently been recognized as an important health problem worldwide, and particularly at very high altitudes in South America. The highest prevalences and intensities of human fascioliasis known are those of the northern Bolivian Altiplano, where infected Lymnaea truncatula occur at altitudes of 3800-4100 m. In the present study, the climatic data for this area of the Altiplano, which differ markedly from those of endemic areas in the lowlands, were analysed. AbstractAmong all molluscs, land snails are an economically and scientifically interesting group comprising edible species, alien species and agricultural pests. Yet, despite its high diversity, the number of whole genomes publicly available is still scarce. Here, we present the draft genome assembly of the land snailCandidula unifasciata, a widely distributed species along central Europe, which belongs to Geomitridae family, a group highly diversified in the Western-Palearctic region. Relations between multi-resolution analysis and quantum mechanics

We discuss a procedure to construct multiresolution analyses (MRA) of L2 (R) starting from a given seed function h (s) which should satisfy some conditions. Our method, originally related to the quantum mechanical Hamiltonian of the fractional quantum Hall effect, is shown to be model independent. The role of a canonical map between certain canonically conjugate operators is discussed. This clarifies our previous procedure and makes much easier most of the original formulas, producing a convenient framework to produce examples of MRA. © 2005 American Institute of Physics.

RNACache: Fast Mapping of RNA-Seq Reads to Transcriptomes Using MinHashing

The alignment of reads to a transcriptome is an important initial step in a variety of bioinformatics RNA-seq pipelines. As traditional alignment-based tools suffer from high runtimes, alternative, alignment-free methods have recently gained increasing importance. We present a novel approach to the detection of local similarities between transcriptomes and RNA-seq reads based on context-aware minhashing. We introduce RNACache, a three-step processing pipeline consisting of minhashing of k-mers, match-based (online) filtering, and coverage-based filtering in order to identify truly expressed transcript isoforms. Energy transfer to xanthene dyes in dansylated POPAM dendrimers

Abstract Excitation energy transfer (EET) in host–guest complexes of dansylated POPAM dendrimers and xanthene dyes have been studied by transient absorption spectroscopy. EET from dansyl periphery to guests: rose bengal, eosin, or fluorescein, showed non-exponential behaviour as a result of distribution of donor–acceptor distances. Time constants range from 100 fs to 8 ps, independent of the dye and the dendrimer generation. Experiments suggested that in dendrimers binding more than one guest, EET among the guests becomes effective. Spatial Bayesian Modeling Applied to the Surveys of Xylella fastidiosa in Alicante (Spain) and Apulia (Italy)

The plant-pathogenic bacterium Xylella fastidiosa was first reported in Europe in 2013, in the province of Lecce, Italy, where extensive areas were affected by the olive quick decline syndrome, caused by the subsp. pauca. In Alicante, Spain, almond leaf scorch, caused by X. fastidiosa subsp. multiplex, was detected in 2017. The effects of climatic and spatial factors on the geographic distribution of X. fastidiosa in these two infested regions in Europe were studied.
