Il saggio ricostruisce le modalità con cui vennero selezionati i podestà per la provincia di Palermo nel periodo compreso fra il 1931 e il 1943. Nella continua dialettica tra centro e periferia i prefetti ebbero il difficile compito di stilare un continuo elenco di “nominabili” che potessero rispondere alle esigenze imposte dal centro. Si trattò di un processo complesso fatto di continue contrattazioni in cui si evidenziò un sempre maggior peso del Pnf provinciale. Review article on two books published by the Banca d'Italia on the economist Ernesto Rossi and the development of his economic ideas during the 1930s while Rossi was a political prisoner due to his anti-fascist activities. The two books explore his collections of books, his activities as a translators of classics in economics and the preparation of his own essays on such topics as the European constitution, poverty and the welfare system.

Il saggio si sofferma sulla figura di Laura Bianchini, esponente del movimento cattolico femminile, rappresentante della corrente di sinistra della Democrazia cristiana. In particolare si analizzano gli articoli che Bianchini pubblicò durante la Resistenza sul giornale Il Ribelle da cui si può trarre il suo pensiero politico. The essay focuses on the figure of Laura Bianchini, exponent of the Catholic women's movement, representative of the left wing of the Christian Democrats. In particular we analyze the articles that Bianchini published during the Resistance in the newspaper Il Ribelle from which his political thought can be drawn.

The shifting evocations of squadrismo: remembering the massacre of Palazzo d'Accursio in Fascist Bologna

The massacre of Palazzo d’Accursio is considered one of the first events in the rise of the Fascist squads. This article analyzes the ways in which the event was described in Bologna during the twenty years that followed it. It is believed that in the first few years, commemorations that emphasized the role of the Fascist squads were not very common. Instead, they concentrated on the life of Giulio Giordani, a murdered lawyer and opposition councilor, who became a martyr. Agli inizi degli anni Venti si fece strada nel dibattito pubblico italiano un nuovo termine, totalitarismo, inventato per descrivere il regime politico che, nonostante rimanesse formalmente in vigore lo Statuto Albertino, si andava costituendo sotto la guida di Benito Mussolini. Gli anni presi in esame sono quelli che vanno dalla fine del 1922 al 1925, esattamente l’arco temporale in cui avviene il percorso di conquista del potere da parte del fascismo.

The paper analyses Spyros Meletzis photography work in the mountains of central Greece during the German occupation in the Second World War. It shows the relations with the ELAS and ELAM and defends that against the appearances his work cannot be seen as photo-journalism, but as a memorial practice of the resistance fight against fascism. Besides, it shows how the process of replacing painting for photography as the main mean of war representation has not been the same from a chronological point of view all over Europe.
