Black fungus-gnats in deciduous forest habitat in northern Europe, with the description of Bradysia arcula sp. n. (Diptera: Sciari…
2007
The sciarid fauna of a deciduous forest in Kivijärvi Nature Reserve, southern Finland, was studied. In all, 58 species were found in a material of 247 specimens, collected with Malaise traps. The material included the following species new to the Finnish and North European fauna: Corynoptera postforcipata Rudzinski, Leptosciarella juniperi (Mohrig & Blasco-Zumeta), Leptosciarella subcoarctata Mohrig&Menzel, Leptosciarella yerburyi (Freeman), Phytosciara macrotricha (Lengersdorf) and Sciara nursei Freeman. Bradysia arcula sp. n., found also in two other localities in Finland, is described, and a key to the Finnish species of the Bradysia praecox group is provided
Short-term effects of wood ants (Formica aquilonia Yarr.) on soil animal community structure
1999
Abstract Wood ants are known to affect the structure of invertebrate communities in tree canopies but it is not clear whether wood ants can affect the structure of soil animal communities. To isolate the direct effects of wood ants on soil fauna, I manipulated wood ant density in a 6-week mesocosm experiment by placing mesocosms (O 14 cm, height 13.5 cm) permeable to ants either on or outside the ant trails. The mesocosms contained litter, humus, and a diverse soil fauna typical of coniferous forest. I controlled earthworm species composition and biomasses by inoculating 470 mg fresh mass of epigeic lumbricid Dendrobaena octaedra (Sav.) or Dendrodrilus rubidus (Sav.) to the mesocosms. A 15-…
The article analyzes the offenses established in the Spanish Penal Code in relation to the hunting of those animals that by resolution or administrative regulations are prohibited from hunting. And mainly the integration of criminal law by administrative law.
Latvijas sikspārņu eholokācijas saucienu variēšana atklātā ainavā.
2022
Updated checklist and distribution of the inland-water calanoid copepods (Copepoda: Calanoida) of Romania
2009
No recent studies on the distribution of calanoid copepods in Romanian inlandwaters are available. During a long-term survey aimed at large branchiopods, we collected two diaptomid species that are new for the fauna of the country, and supplemented the available data on the distribution of other calanoid species with new records. As already observed in the case of large branchiopods, the habitats of the mountain basins of the Eastern Carpathians seem to be characterized by a quite distinct species assemblage. The high calanoid species richness of Romanian inland-waters, and the need for further, more comprehensive surveys aimed at mapping the actual diversity of this order in Romania are st…

CONTRIBUTIONS TO (COLEOPTERA: STAPHYLINIDAE) IN DUMBRAVA SIBIULUI FOREST, ROMANIA IN TERMS OF THE YEARS 2013-2014
2015
This research study describes the results obtained during the years 2013-2014 by capturing in the soil traps, the epigenous artropodofauna in the Dumbrava Sibiului Forest. In addition, the entomofauna structure was studied and ecological interpretations were achieved regarding aspects such as: abundance, dominance, phenology of the collected species collected making a their description from an ecological and ethological point of view. Also the Species were presented and biologically described at the capture data. The experience was run in the period 2013- 2014 (April 2, 2013 and March 21, 2014) and some of the data were taken from a study conducted from 2011-2014 by author together with the…
Tardigrades of Finland: new records and an annotated checklist
2020
Species checklists are powerful and important tools of communication between taxonomists and applied environmental biologists, which in turn lead to well-planned and successful conservation strategies and ecological studies. Despite this, only recently the interest on compiling systematic checklists is growing among taxonomists who study tardigrades—micrometazoans that inhabit almost every habitat worldwide. As the Finnish records of tardigrades (a.k.a. water bears) species are incomplete, outdated and no checklist has ever been compiled for this country, an easy-to-consult checklist is here reported. This checklist covers all Finnish tardigrade taxa identified in the past and in the 13 sam…
Check-list of Italian Birds, updated to the end of 2014
2015
We provide a check-list of Italian birds with major emphasis on the phenological categorization of each taxon, following the approach and updating the results of an analogous list previously published (Brichetti & Massa, 1998). In this list we based on the IOC World Bird List (Gill & Donsker, 2015) for nomenclature, species sequence and higher level taxonomy (from genus to order). This compilation takes into account the decisions made by the Italian Ornithological Commission (COI) and includes 548 species, recorded in Italy until the end of 2014.
Areas of endemism in the Antarctic - a case study of the benthic hydrozoan genusOswaldella(Cnidaria, Kirchenpaueriidae)
2010
Aim The aim of this study is to investigate areas of endemism within the distribution of Oswaldella species in the Southern Ocean, thereby testing previous hypotheses and proposing alternative scenarios for Antarctic evolution. Location Southern Ocean, Antarctic and sub-Antarctic waters of southern South America. Methods We prepared a database for the 31 currently known species of the Antarctic genus Oswaldella, which includes geographical locations gathered from published taxonomic studies as well as materials from museums and expeditions. A parsimony analysis of endemicity (PAE) was used to test hypotheses of distribution patterns. Results Four areas of endemism are hypothesized: southern…
