Mites of the genus Typhlodromus (Acari: Phytoseiidae) from Southern France: combined morphological and molecular approaches for species identification

Mites of the family Phytoseiidae are important predators for biological control applications. They occur naturally in ecosystems but their overall distribution is not completely known. This study presents results of surveys carried out in the south of France. It proposes the use of a combination of morphological and molecular approaches for species diagnosis. Eighteen species of the genus Typhlodromus are reported from southern France, of which nine belong to Typhlodromus (Anthoseius) and nine to Typhlodromus (Typhlodromus). Diachronic variation in the Middle Paleolithic settlement of Abrigo de la Quebrada (Chelva, Spain)

Abstract This paper compares levels IV and VIII of Abrigo de la Quebrada. The study includes knapping technique, raw material, fauna, and the spatial distribution of lithic and bone remains. Although both levels correspond to cumulative palimpsests, patterns of resource management and use of space that suggest changes in the rhythm of occupation and the functionality of the settlements can be discerned. A change in mobility patterns probably underpins the differences between these two levels of Quebrada, but assessing this hypothesis is made difficult by the lack of comparable documentation for other sites in the region.

A new, isolated, population of the endemic Iberian hydrobiid Corbellaria celtiberica has been located, based on shells at the eastern foothills of the Iberian System (Province of Castellón, Valencian Community, Spain). The shells are biometrically studied and compared with shells from the type locality and with additional data from the literature. The finding of this new population considerably expands the previously known distribution area of the species.

The oldest echinoderms and first cornute stylophorans ever reported from Korea are described, based on more than 40 specimens collected from the Late Cambrian of the Taebaeksan Basin. New material doubles the number of stylophorans described from Asia and the number of specimens of Late Cambrian stylophorans recorded throughout the world. Three different cornutes are identified: Sokkaejaecystis serrata n. gen. and sp. and two genus and species indeterminate forms A and B. Abstract A study on ecology and diversity of soil invertebrates of urban pine and mixed pine forests was carried out in seven different sampling plots in Rīga during 2014. Ninety eight soil samples were processed and in total, 40 426 specimens were extracted (of them, 25 237 specimens were identified to species level and 15 189 to order level). Indices (abundance, community similarity etc.) characterising faunal diversity and species communities of Rīga city soil fauna were estimated. The most numerous soil invertebrate groups were Collembola, Oribatida and Mesostigmata, accounting for 95% of all collected animals. AbstractThe chironomid Benthic Quality Index (BQI) is a widely used metric in assessments of lake status. The BQI is based on 7 indicator taxa, which like most profundal fauna, often occur sporadically in low densities. Hence, a major weakness of the index is that it cannot be calculated when indicator taxa are not captured. Thus, an extension of the BQI that incorporates more macroinvertebrate taxa is desirable. The uppermost Miocene, Esbarrondadoiro Formation (Alvalade basin, Portugal) yielded more than 10 thousandSelachian teeth at Santa Margarida, Esbarrondadoiro and Vale de Zebro outcrops. Forty-five taxa were identifiedbelonging to the orders Hexanchiformes, Squaliformes, Lamniformes, Carcharhiniformes, Torpediniformes and Myliobatiformes. The Bastide Blanche (Peyrolles-en-Provence, Bouches-du-Rhône) is a small settlement perched in edge of the Durance where the principal occupation is ascribable to the extreme end of the Neolithic era. Recognized in the past, it was the subject of multiple excavations but of any study nor of any specific publication. A survey campaign and a first excavation campaign programmed in 2003 and 2004 make it possible today to specify the homogeneity of the assemblies often mentioned in the scientific literature.
