Sense experience and differentiation : Husserl on bodily awareness

This article outlines the basic ingredients of Husserl’s theory of bodily awareness. It first analyses the concepts of hyletic and kinesthetic sensibility, and illustrates the interwovenness and equiprimordiality of Me and not-Me in Husserl’s account. Second, it shows how the concept of the lived body emerges from this complex sensible foundation. Thirdly, it argues that, as the area of intersection between the Me and the not-Me, bodily awareness is the initial locus of differentiation between Me and not-Me: an area where the experiential distinction between the Me and the not-Me is constantly negotiated. peerReviewed
A phenomenological research of democracy education in a Finnish primary-school

This phenomenological research examines democracy education and the conditions contributing to young students’ democratic agency. The dataset includes interview and observation data from a school and educational decision-makers. The findings from the iterative analysis highlight the contradictions between democracy education as an ideal and opportunities for democratic agency. One significant contradiction was the expectation that young pupils should be competent democratic agents before being offered opportunities to act democratically. Tämän fenomenologisen pro gradu -tutkielman tarkoituksena oli kuvata ja ymmärtää lonkan tekonivelleikkauksen läpikäyneiden henkilöiden omakohtaisia kokemuksia ja niiden merkityksiä kotona selviytymisestä kolmen kuukauden kuluttua leikkauksesta. Suomessa tehdään vuosittain 7 500 lonkan tekonivelleikkausta ja väestön ikääntyessä leikkausten määrät tulevat lisääntymään. Fysioterapialla on keskeinen osuus lonkan tekonivelleikatun kuntoutusprosessissa. Tämän vuoksi fysioterapian vaikuttavuuden selvittäminen on perusteltua ja tutkimuksissa on tarpeellista ottaa huomioon myös lonkan tekonivelleikkauksen läpikäyneiden henkilöiden omat kokemukset. To efficiently lower virus infectivity and combat virus epidemics or pandemics, it is important to discover broadly acting antivirals. Here, we investigated two naturally occurring polyphenols, Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) and Resveratrol (RES), and polyphenol-functionalized nanoparticles for their antiviral efficacy. Concentrations in the low micromolar range permanently inhibited the infectivity of high doses of enteroviruses (107 PFU/mL). Abstract The paper aims to capture a form of naturalism that can be found “built-in” in phenomenology, namely the idea to take science or mathematics on its own, without postulating extraneous normative “molds” on it. The paper offers a detailed comparison of Penelope Maddy’s naturalism about mathematics and Husserl’s approach to mathematics in Formal and Transcendental Logic (1929). Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvittää erityiskoulun kuntouttavia tukitoimia lapselle, jolla on kielellinen erityisvaikeus sekä pedagogisen kuntoutuksen toteutumista koulussa. Tutkimukseen haluttiin opettajien ja vanhempien käsityksiä koulun osuudesta lapsen kokonaiskuntoutuksesta, koska he ovat asiantuntijoita kouluikäisen lapsen kuntoutuksessa. Tutkimusta varten haastateltiin kahden erityiskoulun opettajia ja vanhempia (n=7) koulun kuntouttavista tukitoimista ja lasten kuntoutukselle asetetuista tavoitteista. On the transcendental undercurrents of phenomenology: the case of the living body

AbstractToday the phenomenological concept of the lived body figures centrally in several philosophical and special scientific debates. In these wide and widening fields, the concept is used with multiple different meanings. In order to clarify and delineate the debates, this paper provides an explication of the phenomenological-transcendental methods. It argues that these methods help us remove the most fundamental ambiguities of the concept of embodiment by distinguishing between the main constituents of the lived body and by illuminating their mutual relations.

Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena on selvittää mielenterveyden kokemusasiantuntijoiden kokemuksia toiminnan henkilökohtaisista merkityksistä ja koetuista yhteiskunnallisista vaikutusmahdollisuuksista. Lisäksi selvitetään kokemusasiantuntijatoiminnan historiallista kehitystä ja kartoitetaan toiminnan eri muotoja nykytilanteessa. Tutkimuksen näkökulma on fenomenologis-hermeneuttinen, jolloin kokemuksien ja merkitysten kuvaamisen lisäksi analyysiin liittyy tulkitseva tutkimusote.
