Human cerebral microcirculation and oxygen saturation during propofol-induced reduction of bispectral index †

2011

† This study investigates the effects of propofol-induced changes in bispectral index (BIS) on cerebral microcirculation and oxygenation during craniotomies. † In 2 mm cerebral depth, an increase in propofol dosage resulted in increased oxygen saturation (srvO2 )w ithout reduction of capillary venous blood flow (rvCBF). † Difference in oxygen content (avDO2) and approximated cerebralmetabolicrateofoxygen (aCMRO2) decreased with an increase in propofol dosage in 2 mm cerebral depth. † Alterations in BIS showed no effect on rvCBF, srvO2 ,a nd haemoglobin amount (rvHb) or on avDO2 or aCMRO2 in 8 mm cerebral depth. † These findings suggest that the CBF/CMRO2 ratio is altered by propofol in a re…

General Factor of Personality Questionnaire (GFPQ): Only one Factor to Understand Personality?

2010

This study proposes a psychometric approach to assess the General Factor of Personality (GFP) to explain the whole personality. This approach defends the existence of one basic factor that represents the overall personality. The General Factor of Personality Questionnaire (GFPQ) is presented to measure the basic, combined trait of the complete personality. The questionnaire includes 20 items and is constituted by two scales with 10 items each one: the Extraversion Scale (ES) and the Introversion Scale (IS). The GFPQ shows adequate internal consistency and construct validity, while the relationships with the personality factors of other models and with psychopathology are as expected. It cor…

Impact force and time analysis influenced by execution distance in a roundhouse kick to the head in taekwondo.

2011

The execution distance is a tactic factor that affects mechanical performance and execution technique in taekwondo. This study analyzes the roundhouse kick to the head by comparing the maximum impact force, execution time, and impact time in 3 distances according to the athletes' competition level. It also analyzes the relationship between impact force and weight in each group. It examines whether the execution distance affects the maximum impact force, execution time, and impact time, in each level group or 2 different competition levels. Participants were 27 male taekwondo players (13 medallists and 14 nonmedallists). The medallists executed the roundhouse kick to the head with greater im…

Comparison of service tactic formation on players’ movements and point outcome between national and beginner level padel

2021

The aim of this study was to analyze the influence of service tactic formation on players’ movements and point outcome at two different performance levels. The sample contained 2,148 points corresponding to 18 matches from two male padel indoor tournaments. Players were classified according to their game level: high-level (N = 36; age = 33.3 ± 6.9 years) and beginner (N = 36; age = 35.4 ± 6.8 years). Variables pertaining to service tactic formation (conventional or Australian), point outcome and movement patterns were analysed from the matches through systematic observation. The results showed how high-level players used a significantly higher percentage of the Australian formation than beg…

Relationship between rheological properties, in vitro release and in vivo equivalency of topical formulations of diclofenac.

2019

Determination of bioequivalence remains a challenge in generic topical drug development. To support pharmacokinetic studies, strategies to demonstrate microstructure sameness of the products being compared include in vitro evaluations, such as the comparison of rheological properties, droplet size and in vitro release rates. Nevertheless, defining the appropriate acceptance range to consider equivalence between test and reference formulation is complex. To shed more light into this issue, in vitro release and rheological properties were compared to in vivo bioequivalence data (systemic blood measurements within a clinical trial) after topical application of a single dose. Test and reference…

Evaluation of the analgesic efficacies of Dexketoprofen Trometamol and Dexketoprofen Trometamol + Thiocolchicoside combinations in the impacted third…

2019

Background Postoperative pain is one of the most common complications. The aim of this study is to evaluate the analgesic efficacies of dexketoprofen trometamol and two different dosages of dexketoprofen trometamol + thiocolchicoside combination in the impacted third molar tooth operation. Material and Methods This randomized, double-blind study included 75 patients who did not have any disease. Patients were assigned to 3 groups. Group 1 received 25 mg dexketoprofen trometamol + 4 mg thiocholchicoside, Group 2 received 25 mg dexketoprofen trometamol +8 mg thiocholchicoside, and Group 3 received 25 mg dexketoprofen trometamol. In each group, the analgesic medication was administered twice a…

A novel technique for intraduodenal administration of drug suspensions/solutions with concurrent pH monitoring applied to ibuprofen formulations

2019

Characterization of dissolution of solid suspended drug particles in vivo is important for developing biopredictive in vitro tests. Therefore, methods to gain deeper insights into particle dissolution in vivo are needed. The soft Bioperm intubation method, a well established tool for investigation of permeability, absorption, metabolism, and drug interactions at predefined locations in the gastroinstinal tract, was modified. The novel intubation method involved pump-controlled infusion of pharmaceutical suspensions as well as simultaneous pH monitoring. This technique was used in a proof of concept study in healthy humans. Plasma sampling and non-compartmental analysis allowed comparison of…

Modeling offenses among motorcyclists involved in crashes in Spain.

2013

In relative terms, Spanish motorcyclists are more likely to be involved in crashes than other drivers and this tendency is constantly increasing. The objective of this study is to identify the factors that are related to being an offender in motorcycle accidents. A binary logit model is used to differentiate between offender and non-offender motorcyclists. A motorcyclist was considered to be offender when s/he had committed at least one traffic offense at the moment previous to the crash. The analysis is based on the official accident database of the Spanish general directorate of traffic (DGT) for the 2003–2008 time period. A number of explanatory variables including motorcyclist character…

Homicide as a Source of Posttraumatic Stress?: A Meta‐Analysis of the Prevalence of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder After Committing Homicide

2020

There is a growing body of literature on the diagnosis of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after committing homicide that has examined the prevalence of this phenomenon among individuals who have been convicted, but these studies considerably vary. The present study was the first meta-analysis to synthesize scientific evidence regarding the prevalence of offense-related PTSD among convicted killers. A total of 691 articles were identified through an initial screening process, and the final analysis included 11 studies that met the analysis criteria. We examined the prevalence of PTSD after committing homicide and explored how these rates varied by sample type, offender type, diagnosis t…
