Endoscopic Treatment of Mesencephalic Ependymal Cysts: Technical Case Report
1998
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the results of different neuroendoscopic surgical procedures for the treatment of mesencephalic ependymal cysts. METHODS: The clinical records of five patients treated for symptomatic mesencephalic ependymal cysts were retrospectively studied. Two patients had been operated on using an endoscope-assisted microsurgical technique and three patients using a pure endoscopic procedure. RESULTS: Adequate fenestration of the cysts was achieved in all of the patients. Two of the patients were symptom-free, and the other three had improved significantly after a mean follow-up duration of 14 months. There was no surgical morbidity. CONCLUSION: Mesencephalic ependymal cysts can …

Italian multicentric survey on laparoscopic spleen surgery in the pediatric population.
2007
Abstract Background: Some technical aspects of laparoscopic spleen surgery still are debated, although efforts have been made to standardize them. The position of the patient, the approach to the spleen, vessel identification and division, and spleen extraction can vary from center to center. Methods: This retrospective muticentric study led by the Societa` Italiana di Videochirurgia Infantile (SIVI) examined indications, surgical details, and complications of laparoscopic spleen surgery in the pediatric population during a 5-year period. Results: The study period from January 1999 to December 2003 (5 years) involved nine centers and included 85 patients with a mean age of 10 years (range, …
Laparoskopische Therapie von Leber-, Milzund Mesenterialzysten
2008
Five women and one man (average age 62.5 [20-64] years) with symptomatic intraabdominal cysts at different sites (liver: n = 3; spleen: n = 2; mesentery: n = 1) had them removed by laparoscopic surgery. Broad fenestration was performed with the hepatic and splenic cysts, while the mesenteric cyst was enucleated from the mesentery. There were no intra- or postoperative complications. Median duration of operation was 60 (45-125) min, postoperative hospital stay was 5 (3-6) days. After a median follow-up period of 8 (1-12) months a 3 cm residual cyst was found in the patient with the splenic cyst, but all patients were free of symptoms. -Laparoscopic surgery is a low-stress alternative to conv…
Use of self-organizing maps for analyzing the behavior of canines displaced towards midline under interceptive treatment
2017
Background Displaced maxillary permanent canine is one of the more frequent findings in canine eruption process and it’s easy to be outlined and early diagnosed by means of x-ray images. Late diagnosis frequently needs surgery to rescue the impacted permanent canine. In many cases, interceptive treatment to redirect canine eruption is needed. However, some patients treated by interceptive means end up requiring fenestration to orthodontically guide the canine to its normal occlusal position. It would be interesting, therefore, to discover the dental characteristics of patients who will need additional surgical treatment to interceptive treatment. Material and Methods To study the dental cha…
Palatal fenestration after orthodontic treatment. Intermodal approach and evolution. A case report
2018
A 15-year-old patient is referred to the Department of Periodontics of the University of Valencia. The patient reported dissatisfaction with the position of upper right canine after orthodontic treatment. Previously, in a private center, surgical approaches were performed for the traction of the canine included. On clinical examination at first appointment, generalized plaque-induced gingivitis was observed, with palatal fenestration of the root of upper right lateral incisor of approximately 75% of the total surface, with suppuration and very little gingiva inserted at the cervical level, which presents a buccal torque of the crown. Radiologically, a mild rhizolysis and bone loss adjacent …
Dual guidewire balloon antegrade fenestration and re‐entrytechnique for coronary chronic total occlusions percutaneouscoronary interventions
2022
Objectives:To describe the experience of coronary chronic total occlusions (CTOs)percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) using antegrade fenestration and re‐entry(AFR) technique with a dedicated dual guidewire balloon (DGB).Background:Antegrade dissection and re‐entry (ADR) techniques has beenemphasized in recent worldwide CTO consensus documents. We investigated thefeasibility and safety of DGB as a dedicated device to perform guidewire‐based AFR.Methods and Results:Fourteen consecutive patients with complex CTO (J‐CTOscore: 3.1 ± 0.9) underwent DGB‐AFR in the years 2020–2021. DGB‐AFR consists inadvancing the DGB over a guidewire that reached the vessel distal to the CTO in anextra plaqu…
Dental implants with versus without peri-implant bone defects treated with guided bone regeneration
2015
BACKGROUND: The guided bone regeneration (GBR) technique is highly successful for the treatment of peri-implant bone defects. The aim was to determine whether or not implants associated with GBR due to peri-implant defects show the same survival and success rates as implants placed in native bone without defects. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Patients with a minimum of two submerged dental implants: one suffering a dehiscence or fenestration defect during placement and undergoing simultaneous guided bone regeneration (test group), versus the other entirely surrounded by bone (control group) were treated and monitored annually for three years. Complications with the healing procedure, implant surviv…
Multicenter experience with the antegrade fenestration and reentry technique for chronic total occlusion recanalization
2020
Objectives We aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of antegrade fenestration and reentry (AFR) for chronic total occlusion (CTO) recanalization in a multicenter registry. Background Adoption of antegrade dissection/reentry (ADR) for CTO recanalization has been limited, and novel ADR techniques are needed. Methods AFR involves the balloon-induced creation of multiple fenestrations between the false and true lumen. A targeted true lumen reentry is subsequently achieved with a low tip-load polymer-jacketed guidewire. Following the initial description and dissemination of AFR, patients undergoing AFR-based CTO recanalization at nine centers were included in the present registry. Study endp…
