The establishment of the Trafficking1 and the Smuggling Protocol2 has brought to the surface the importance of the concept of vulnerability. However, the Protocols have not given a precise definition to the concept of vulnerability, in order to perceive a practical application on legal grounds. In 2005, the Council of Europe tries to delimit the definition’s gap of such concept, through the Convention of Warsaw3, giving a more exact definition of the concept. The present article intends to analyse the evolution and the application of this concept on the international legal framework on Human trafficking and Smuggling of migrants.

The following article presents the results of a research-action and an online communication campaign on the prevention of radicalization of second-generation young Italian Muslims as a part of a project called “Oltre” (the Italian acronym means “Beyond”) financed by European Union. The expression “second-generation” is particularly complex for several reasons. First of all, because of the link with the term “generation,” the use of the adjective “second,” and the meanings attributed to it by those so defined. Cosa accade quando affrontiamo il tema dell’integrazione facendo riferimento alle “seconde generazioni”? È possibile ipotizzare che le “seconde generazioni”, le “terze generazioni”, … siano lo “specchio” dell’avvenuto processo di integrazione dei migranti nella società? Il tema delle seconde generazioni è centrale per riflettere sulle capacità della società d’arrivo di mettere in campo, attraverso interventi legislativi e non solo, azioni di inclusione realmente calibrati sui processi e sulle caratteristiche reali dei soggetti coinvolti.

Nel tracciare il percorso bibliografico, questo saggio introduttivo affronta la vasta bibliografia tematica relativa ai “sei discorsi” (ampliando anche il campo di riflessione di Soja) senza alcuna pretesa di sistematicità, ma perseguendo l’obiettivo di rintracciare le geografie della transizione postmetropolitana in atto nei territori siciliani. Seguendo l’asse del ragionamento di Soja, la postmetropoli è stata “utilizzata” come dispositivo di frattura epistemologica (Brenner e Schmid, 2015) rispetto alle teorie urbane che riconoscono solo nell’unità morfologica densa della città i caratteri dell’urbano.
