Large-NCproperties of theρandf0(600)mesons from unitary resonance chiral dynamics

2011

We construct $\ensuremath{\pi}\ensuremath{\pi}$ amplitudes that fulfill exact elastic unitarity, account for one-loop chiral perturbation theory contributions and include all $1/{N}_{C}$ leading terms, with the only limitation of considering just the lowest-lying nonet of exchanged resonances. Within such a scheme, the ${N}_{C}$ dependence of $\ensuremath{\sigma}$ and $\ensuremath{\rho}$ masses and widths is discussed. Robust conclusions are drawn in the case of the $\ensuremath{\rho}$ resonance, confirming that it is a stable meson in the limit of a large number of QCD colors, ${N}_{C}$. Less definitive conclusions are reached in the scalar-isoscalar sector. With the present quality of dat…

Modular symmetry origin of texture zeros and quark-lepton unification

2020

The even weight modular forms of level $N$ can be arranged into the common irreducible representations of the inhomogeneous finite modular group $\Gamma_N$ and the homogeneous finite modular group $\Gamma'_N$ which is the double covering of $\Gamma_N$, and the odd weight modular forms of level $N$ transform in the new representations of $\Gamma'_N$. We find that the above structure of modular forms can naturally generate texture zeros of the fermion mass matrices if we properly assign the representations and weights of the matter fields under the modular group. We perform a comprehensive analysis for the $\Gamma'_3\cong T'$ modular symmetry. The three generations of left-handed quarks are a…

CLS 2+1 flavor simulations at physical light-and strange-quark masses

2017

We report recent efforts by CLS to generate an ensemble with physical light- and strange-quark masses in a lattice volume of 192x96^3 at $\beta=3.55$ corresponding to a lattice spacing of 0.064 fm. This ensemble is being generated as part of the CLS 2+1 flavor effort with improved Wilson fermions. Our simulations currently cover 5 lattice spacings ranging from 0.039 fm to 0.086 fm at various pion masses along chiral trajectories with either the sum of the quark masses kept fixed, or with the strange-quark mass at the physical value. The current status of simulations is briefly reviewed, including a short discussion of measured autocorrelation times and of the main features of the simulation…

Precision Measurement of the RatioB(t→Wb)/B(t→Wq)and Extraction ofVtb

2011

We present a measurement of the ratio of top quark branching fractions R = B(t -> Wb)/B(t -> Wq), where q can be a d, s or b quark, in the lepton+jets and dilepton ttbar final states. The measurement uses data from 5.4 fb-1 of ppbar collisions collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We measure R = 0.90 +/- 0.04, and we extract the CKM matrix element |Vtb| as |Vtb| = 0.95 +/- 0.02, assuming unitarity of the 3x3 CKM matrix.

One-loop corrections to four-point functions with two external massive fermions and two external massless partons

2002

We present a complete set of one-loop matrix elements relevant for the hadroproduction of heavy quarks in next-to-leading order employing dimensional regularization to isolate ultraviolet and soft divergences. All results of the perturbative calculation are given in detail. These one-loop matrix elements can also be used as input in the determination of the corresponding next-to-leading order cross sections for heavy flavor photoproduction and in photon-photon reactions, as well as for any of the relevant crossed processes. Our results are tested against the results of other related studies in which unpolarized and longitudinally polarized processes were considered.

Gauge-invariant on-shellZ 2 in QED, QCD and the effective field theory of a static quark

1991

We calculate theon-shell fermion wave-function renormalization constantZ 2 of a general gauge theory, to two loops, inD dimensions and in an arbitrary covariant gauge, and find it to be gauge-invariant. In QED this is consistent with the dimensionally regularized version of the Johnson-Zumino relation: d logZ 2/da 0=i(2π)−D e 0 2 ∫d D k/k 4=0. In QCD it is, we believe, a new result, strongly suggestive of the cancellation of the gauge-dependent parts of non-abelian UV and IR anomalous dimensions to all orders. At the two-loop level, we find that the anomalous dimension γ F of the fermion field in minimally subtracted QCD, withN L light-quark flavours, differs from the corresponding anomalou…

Diphoton resonance from a warped extra dimension

2016

We argue that extensions of the Standard Model (SM) with a warped extra dimension, which successfully address the hierarchy and flavor problems of elementary particle physics, can provide an elegant explanation of the 750 GeV diphoton excess recently reported by ATLAS and CMS. A gauge-singlet bulk scalar with ${\cal O}(1)$ couplings to fermions is identified as the new resonance $S$, and the vector-like Kaluza-Klein excitations of the SM quarks and leptons mediate its loop-induced couplings to photons and gluons. The electroweak gauge symmetry almost unambiguously dictates the bulk matter content and hence the hierarchies of the $S\to \gamma\gamma$, $WW$, $ZZ$, $Z\gamma$, $t\bar t$ and dije…

QCD thermodynamics with two flavours of Wilson fermions on large lattices

2012

We explore the phase diagram of two flavour QCD at vanishing chemical potential using dynamical O(a)-improved Wilson quarks. In the approach to the chiral limit we use lattices with a temporal extent of N_t=16 and spatial extent L=32,48 and 64 to enable the extrapolation to the thermodynamic limit with small discretisation effects. In addition to an update on the scans at constant \kappa, reported earlier, we present first results from scans along lines of constant physics at a pion mass of 290 MeV. We probe the transition using the Polyakov loop and the chiral condensate, as well as spectroscopic observables such as screening masses.
