The efficacy of balneotherapy, mud therapy and spa therapy in patients with osteoarthritis: an overview of reviews.
2021
Osteoarthritis is a degenerative disease considered a leading cause of functional disability. Its treatment is based on a combination of pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions, but the role of these latter is still debated. This overview of systematic reviews aimed at evaluating the short-term efficacy of different thermal modalities in patients with osteoarthritis. We searched PubMed, Scopus, CINHAL, Web of Science, ProQuest and the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews from inception until October 2020, with no language restrictions. We selected the following outcomes a priori: pain, stiffness and quality of life. Seventeen systematic reviews containing 27 unique relevant…
Comparative analysis of the electronic structures of mono- and bi-atomic chains of IV, III–V and II–VI group elements calculated using the DFT LCAO a…
2015
Using the first principle non-relativistic linear combination of atomic orbitals (LCAO) and relativistic linearized augmented cylindrical wave (LACW) methods, the band structure of the covalent and partially ionic ANB8−N single atom width chain is calculated. Both the LCAO and LACW methods show that the chains of C, Si, Ge, Sn, and Pb are metallic. However, there is a great difference between the relativistic and non-relativistic band structures. The π bands crossing the Fermi level are orbitally doubly degenerate in the non-relativistic model. The relativistic LACW calculations demonstrate that the spin and orbital motion of electrons are coupled, thereby splitting the π bands. The spin–or…
Parity-violating effects in electroproduction of theΔ(1232)by polarized electrons
1982
Parity-violating effects in the (quasi)elastic scattering of longitudinally polarized electrons from spin-\textonehalf{} targets are discussed in the framework of the unified guage theories of weak and electromagnetic interactions. In particular, the $R\ensuremath{-}L$ asymmetry in electroproduction of the $\ensuremath{\Delta}(1232)$ is studied in considerable detail, taking into account the full spin-$\frac{3}{2}$ structure of this resonance. Our results are valid for all values of $E$ and the entire range of ${Q}^{2}$. Numerical predictions are given for the standard Weinberg-Salam model at several energies of the electron beam.
Limits to the fixed center approximation to Faddeev equations: The case of theϕ(2170)
2011
The fixed center approximation to the Faddeev equations has been used lately with success in the study of bound systems of three hadrons. It is also important to set the limits of the approach in those problems to prevent proliferation of inaccurate predictions. In this paper, we study the case of the $\ensuremath{\phi}(2170)$, which has been described by means of Faddeev equations as a resonant state of $\ensuremath{\phi}$ and $K\overline{K}$, and show the problems derived from the use of the fixed center approximation in its study. At the same time, we also expose the limitations of an alternative approach recently proposed.
Devaluation towards people with schizophrenia in Italian medical, nursing, and psychology students
2017
IntroductionDiscrimination towards people with schizophrenia (PWS) by healthcare professionals is responsible of underdiagnosis and undertreatment of these patients. Negative attitudes toward PSW in health care professionals tend to be present since their university studies and are related to their knowledge and experience about the disease. Objectives and aimsTo assess opinion towards PSW in medical, nursing and psychology students and to investigate the relation with their knowledge of schizophrenia and its causes.MethodsThe study involved 133 medical, 200 nursing and 296 psychology undergraduate students. The opinion on mental illness questionnaire, the Devaluation Consumers Scale, and th…

Alternative single-reference coupled cluster approaches for multireference problems: the simpler, the better.
2011
We report a general implementation of alternative formulations of single-reference coupled cluster theory (extended, unitary, and variational) with arbitrary-order truncation of the cluster operator. These methods are applied to compute the energy of Ne and the equilibrium properties of HF and C(2). Potential energy curves for the dissociation of HF and the BeH(2) model computed with the extended, variational, and unitary coupled cluster approaches are compared to those obtained from the multireference coupled cluster approach of Mukherjee et al. [J. Chem. Phys. 110, 6171 (1999)] and the internally contracted multireference coupled cluster approach [F. A. Evangelista and J. Gauss, J. Chem. …
Relativistic beaming and gamma-ray brightness of blazars
2009
We investigate the dependence of gamma-ray brightness of blazars on intrinsic properties of their parsec-scale radio jets and the implication for relativistic beaming. By combining apparent jet speeds derived from high-resolution VLBA images from the MOJAVE program with millimetre-wavelength flux density monitoring data from Metsahovi Radio Observatory, we estimate the jet Doppler factors, Lorentz factors, and viewing angles for a sample of 62 blazars. We study the trends in these quantities between the sources which were detected in gamma-rays by the Fermi Large Area Telescope (LAT) during its first three months of science operations and those which were not detected. The LAT-detected blaz…
A first-principles DFT study of UN bulk and (001) surface: comparative LCAO and PW calculations.
2008
LCAO and PW DFT calculations of the lattice constant, bulk modulus, cohesive energy, charge distribu- tion, band structure, and DOS for UN single crystal are analyzed. It is demonstrated that a choice of the uranium atom relativistic effective core potentials considerably affects the band structure and magnetic structure at low tem- peratures. All calculations indicate mixed metallic-covalent chemical bonding in UN crystal with U5f states near the Fermi level. On the basis of the experience accumulated in UN bulk simulations, we compare the atomic and elec- tronic structure as well as the formation energy for UN(001) surface calculated on slabs of different thickness using both DFT approach…
