Response functions for infinite fermion systems with velocity dependent interactions
1992
Response functions of infinite Fermi systems are studied in the framework of the self-consistent random phase approximation (RPA). Starting from an effective interaction with velocity and density dependence, or equivalently from a local energy density functional, algebraic expressions for the RPA response function are derived. Simple formulae for the energy-weighted and polarizability sum rules are obtained. The method is illustrated by applications to nuclear matter and liquid 3 He. In nuclear matter, it is shown that existing Skyrme interactions give spin-isospin response functions close to those calculated with finite range interactions. The different renormalization of longitudinal and …
Fermion confinement via quantum walks in (2+1)-dimensional and (3+1)-dimensional space-time
2017
We analyze the properties of a two- and three-dimensional quantum walk that are inspired by the idea of a brane-world model put forward by Rubakov and Shaposhnikov [Phys. Lett. B 125, 136 (1983)PYLBAJ0370-269310.1016/0370-2693(83)91253-4]. In that model, particles are dynamically confined on the brane due to the interaction with a scalar field. We translated this model into an alternate quantum walk with a coin that depends on the external field, with a dependence which mimics a domain wall solution. As in the original model, fermions (in our case, the walker) become localized in one of the dimensions, not from the action of a random noise on the lattice (as in the case of Anderson localiza…
Excitation spectra of aHe3impurity onHe4clusters
2004
The diffusion Monte Carlo technique is used to calculate and analyze the excitation spectrum of a single $^{3}\mathrm{He}$ atom bound to a cluster with $N$ $^{4}\mathrm{He}$ atoms, with the aim of establishing the most adequate filling ordering of single-fermion orbits to the mixed clusters with a large number of $^{3}\mathrm{He}$ atoms. The resulting ordering looks like the rotational spectrum of a diatomic molecule, being classified only by the angular momentum of the level, although vibrational-like excitations appear at higher energies for sufficiently large $N$.
Localization of particles in harmonic confinement: Effect of the interparticle interaction
2007
We study the localization of particles rotating in a two-dimensional harmonic potential by solving their rotational spectrum using many-particle quantum mechanics and comparing the result to that obtained with quantizing the rigid rotation and vibrational modes of localized particles. We show that for a small number of particles the localization is similar for bosons and fermions. Moreover, independent of the range of the interaction the quantum mechanical spectrum at large angular momenta can be understood by vibrational modes of localized particles.
Strongly correlated states of trapped ultracold fermions in deformed Landau levels
2015
We analyze the strongly correlated regime of a two-component trapped ultracold fermionic gas in a synthetic non-Abelian U(2) gauge potential, that consists of both a magnetic field and a homogeneous spin-orbit coupling. This gauge potential deforms the Landau levels (LLs) with respect to the Abelian case and exchanges their ordering as a function of the spin-orbit coupling. In view of experimental realizations, we show that a harmonic potential combined with a Zeeman term, gives rise to an angular momentum term, which can be used to test the stability of the correlated states obtained through interactions. We derive the Haldane pseudopotentials (HPs) describing the interspecies contact inte…
Revisiting spin-dependent forces mediated by new bosons : potentials in the coordinate-space representation for macroscopic- and atomic-scale experim…
2019
The exchange of spin-0 or spin-1 bosons between fermions or spin-polarised macroscopic objects gives rise to various spin-dependent potentials. We derive the coordinate-space non-relativistic potentials induced by the exchange of such bosons, including contact terms that can play an important role in atomic-scale phenomena, and correct for errors and omissions in the literature. We summarise the properties of the potentials and their relevance for various types of experiments. These potentials underpin the interpretation of experiments that search for new bosons, including spectroscopy, torsion-pendulum measurements, magnetometry, parity nonconservation and electric dipole moment experiment…
Decay study ofTc114with a Penning trap
2011
The level structure of $^{114}\mathrm{Ru}$ has been investigated via the $\ensuremath{\beta}$ decay of very neutron-rich $^{114}\mathrm{Tc}$ by means of Penning-trap-assisted $\ensuremath{\gamma}$ spectroscopy. The deduced $\ensuremath{\beta}$-decay scheme suggests the existence of two $\ensuremath{\beta}$-decaying states in $^{114}\mathrm{Tc}$ with ${I}^{\ensuremath{\pi}}={1}^{+}$ and $I\ensuremath{\geqslant}$ 4, with half-lives of ${t}_{1/2}({1}^{+})=90(20)$ ms and ${t}_{1/2}(I\ensuremath{\geqslant}4)=100(20)$ ms, respectively. The ${Q}_{\ensuremath{\beta}}$ value, which covers a possible mixture of two states, has been determined to be ${Q}_{\ensuremath{\beta}}=11 785(12)$ keV. The level…
Electromagnetic form factors and axial charge of the nucleon from Nf = 2 + 1 Wilson fermions
2018
We present an update on our determination of the electromagnetic form factors and axial charge of the nucleon from theNf= 2 + 1 CLS ensembles with increased statistics and an additional finer lattice spacing. We also investigate the impact ofO(a)-improvement of the currents.
Dynamics of Confined Crowd Modelled Using Fermionic Operators
2014
An operatorial method based on fermionic operators is used to describe the dynamics of a crowd made of different kind of populations mutually interacting and moving in a two–dimensional bounded closed region. The densities of the populations are recovered through the Heisenberg equation and the diffusion process is driven by the Hamiltonian operator defined by requiring that the populations move along optimal paths. We apply the model obtained in a concrete situation and we discuss the effect of the interaction between the populations during their motion.
Topological insulators in filled skutterudites
2011
We propose new topological insulators in cerium filled skutterudite (FS) compounds based on ab initio calculations. We find that two compounds CeOs4As12 and CeOs4Sb12 are zero gap materials with band inversion between Os-d and Ce-f orbitals, which are thus parent compounds of two and three-dimensional topological insulators just like bulk HgTe. At low temperature, both compounds become topological Kondo insulators, which are Kondo insulators in the bulk, but have robust Dirac surface states on the boundary. This new family of topological insulators has two advantages compared to previous ones. First, they can have good proximity effect with other superconducting FS compounds to realize Maja…
