Non-perturbative improvement of the vector current in Wilson lattice QCD

Many observables of interest in lattice QCD are extracted from correlation functions involving the vector current. If Wilson fermions are used, it is therefore of practical importance that, besides the action, the current be O($a$) improved in order to remove the leading discretization errors from the observables. Here we introduce and apply a new method to determine the improvement coefficient for the two most widely used discretizations of the current.

Electroweak Effective Charges and their relation to Physical Cross Sections

In quantum electrodynamics with fermions f = e,\mu..., knowledge of the vacuum polarization spectral function determined from the tree level e^+e^- -> f^+f^- cross sections, together with a single low energy measurement of the fine structure constant \alpha, enables the construction of the one-loop effective charge \alpha_eff(q^2) for all q^2. It is shown how an identical procedure can be followed in the electroweak sector of the Standard Model to construct three gauge-, scale- and scheme-independent one-loop electroweak effective charges and an effective weak mixing angle from the tree level e^+e^- -> W^+W^-, ZH and e^+\nu_e -> W^+Z, W^+\gamma, W^+H differential cross sections, together wi…

Plausible explanation for theΔ5/2+(2000)puzzle

From a Faddeev calculation for the $\ensuremath{\pi}$-$(\ensuremath{\Delta}\ensuremath{\rho}){}_{{N}_{5/{2}^{\ensuremath{-}}}(1675)}$ system we show the plausible existence of three dynamically generated $I({J}^{P})=3/2(5/{2}^{+})$ baryon states below 2.3 GeV, whereas only two resonances, ${\ensuremath{\Delta}}_{5/{2}^{+}}(1905)(****)$ and ${\ensuremath{\Delta}}_{5/{2}^{+}}(2000)(**),$ are cataloged in the Particle Data Book Review. Our results give theoretical support to data analyses extracting two distinctive resonances, ${\ensuremath{\Delta}}_{5/{2}^{+}}(~$1740) and ${\ensuremath{\Delta}}_{5/{2}^{+}}(~$2200), from which the mass of ${\ensuremath{\Delta}}_{5/{2}^{+}}(2000)(**)$ is estima…

Lepton Transmutation in the Dualized Standard Model

The successful explanation of fermion mixing and of the fermion mass hierarchy by the Dualized Standard Model (DSM) scheme is based on the premises of a fermion mass matrix rotating in generation space with changing scales at a certain speed, which could in principle lead to sizeable flavour-violation observable in high sensitivity experiments such as BaBar. Combined Tevatron upper limit ongg→H→W+W−and constraints on the Higgs boson mass in fourth-generation fermion models

We combine results from searches by the CDF and D0 collaborations for a standard model Higgs boson (H) in the process gg -> H -> W+W- in p (p) over bar collisions at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider at root s = 1.96 TeV. With 4.8 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity analyzed at CDF and 5.4 fb(-1) at D0, the 95% confidence level upper limit on sigma(gg -> H) x B(H -> W+W-) is 1.75 pb at m(H) = 120 GeV, 0.38 pb at m(H) = 165 GeV, and 0.83 pb at m(H) = 200 GeV. Assuming the presence of a fourth sequential generation of fermions with large masses, we exclude at the 95% confidence level a standard-model-like Higgs boson with a mass between 131 and 204 GeV.

A Lattice Construction of Chiral Gauge Theories

We formulate chiral gauge theories non-perturbatively, using two different cuttoffs for the fermions and gauge bosons. We use a lattice with spacing $b$ to regulate the gauge fields in standard fashion, while computing the chiral fermion determinant on a finer lattice with spacing $f << b$. This determinant is computed in the background of $f$-lattice gauge fields, obtained by gauge-covariantly interpolating $b$-lattice gauge fields. The notorious doublers that plague lattice theories containing fermions are decoupled by the addition of a Wilson term. In chiral theories such a term breaks gauge invariance explicitly. Supersymmetry unification predictions for m(top), V(cb) and tan(beta)

We study the predictions for M_top, tan(beta) and V_cb in a popular texture ansatze for the fermion mass matrices. We do this both for the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) and for the simplest model (MSSM-BRpV) where a bilinear R-Parity violating term is added to the superpotential. We find that taking the experimental values for M_top and V_cb at 99 % C.L. and the GUT relations h_b=h_tau and (V_cb)^2=h_c/h_t within 5 %, the large tan(beta) solution, characteristic in the MSSM with bottom--tau unification, becomes disallowed. In contrast the corresponding allowed region for the MSSM-BRpV is slightly larger. We also find that important modifications occur if we relax the texture …

Lepton flavour violation in a left-right symmetric model

We consider in this paper a Left-Right symmetric gauge model in which a global lepton-number-like symmetry is introduced and broken spontaneously at a scale that could be as low as 10^4 GeV or so. The corresponding physical Nambu-Goldstone boson, which we call majoron and denote J, can have tree-level flavour-violating couplings to the charged fermions, leading to sizeable majoron-emitting lepton-flavour-violating weak decays. We consider explicitly a leptonic variant of the model and show that the branching ratios for \mu -> e+J, \tau -> e + J and \tau -> \mu + J decays can be large enough to fall within the sensitivities of future \mu and \tau factories.
