Strange Electromagnetic Form Factors of the Nucleon with Nf=2+1 O(a) -Improved Wilson Fermions
2019
We present results for the strange contribution to the electromagnetic form factors of the nucleon computed on the coordinated lattice simulation ensembles with N_{f}=2+1 flavors of O(a)-improved Wilson fermions and an O(a)-improved vector current. Several source-sink separations are investigated in order to estimate the excited-state contamination. We calculate the form factors on six ensembles with lattice spacings in the range of a=0.049-0.086 fm and pion masses in the range of m_{π}=200-360 MeV, which allows for a controlled chiral and continuum extrapolation. In the computation of the quark-disconnected contributions, we employ hierarchical probing as a variance-reduction technique.
Neutrino masses and GUT baryogenesis
2004
We reconsider the GUT-baryogenesis mechanism for generating the baryon asymmetry of the Universe. The baryon asymmetry is produced by the out of equilibrium decay of coloured Higgs bosons at the GUT scale, conserving B-L. If neutrinos are Majorana particles, lepton number violating interactions erase the lepton number excess, but part of the baryon asymmetry may be preserved, provided those interactions are not in thermal equilibrium when the sphaleron processes become effective, at $T \sim 10^{12}~ GeV$. We analyse whether this mechanism for baryogenesis is feasible in a variety of GUT models of fermion masses proposed in the literature, based on horizontal symmetries.
A new method for suppressing excited-state contaminations on the nucleon form factors
2018
One of the most challenging tasks in lattice calculations of baryon form factors is the analysis and control of excited-state contaminations. Taking the isovector axial form factors of the nucleon as an example, both a dispersive representation and a calculation in chiral effective field theory show that the excited-state contributions become dominant at fixed source-sink separation when the axial current is spatially distant from the nucleon source location. We address this effect with a new method in which the axial current is localized by a Gaussian wave-packet and apply it on a CLS ensemble with $N_f=2+1$ flavors of O($a$) improved Wilson fermions with a pion mass of $m_\pi=200\,$MeV.
Measurement of the Ratio of Branching FractionsB(B¯0→D*+τ−ν¯τ)/B(B¯0→D*+μ−ν¯μ)
2015
The branching fraction ratio R(D-*) = B((B) over bar (0) -> D-*(+)tau(-)(nu) over bar (tau))/B((B) over bar (0) -> D-*(+)mu(-)(nu) over bar (mu)) is measured using a sample of proton-proton collision data corresponding to 3.0 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity recorded by the LHCb experiment during 2011 and 2012. The tau lepton is identified in the decay mode tau(-) -> mu(-)(nu) over bar (mu)nu(tau). The semitauonic decay is sensitive to contributions from non-standard-model particles that preferentially couple to the third generation of fermions, in particular, Higgs-like charged scalars. A multidimensional fit to kinematic distributions of the candidate (B) over bar (0) decays gives R(D-*) =…
A flavour physics scenario for the 750 GeV diphoton anomaly
2016
A simple variant of a realistic flavor symmetry scheme for fermion masses and mixings provides a possible interpretation of the diphoton anomaly as an electroweak singlet ``flavon.'' The existence of TeV scale vectorlike T-quarks required to provide adequate values for Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) parameters can also naturally account for the diphoton anomaly. Correlations between ${V}_{ub}$ and ${V}_{cb}$ with the vectorlike T-quark mass can be predicted. Should the diphoton anomaly survive in a future run, our proposed interpretation can also be tested in upcoming B and LHC studies.
(g−2) anomalies and neutrino mass
2020
Motivated by the experimentally observed deviations from standard model predictions, we calculate the anomalous magnetic moments $a_\alpha = (g-2)_\alpha$ for $\alpha=e,\mu$ in a neutrino mass model originally proposed by Babu-Nandi-Tavartkiladze (BNT). We discuss two variants of the model, the original model plus a minimally extended version with an additional hypercharge zero triplet scalar. While the original BNT model can explain $a_\mu$, only the variant with the triplet scalar can explain both experimental anomalies. The heavy fermions of the model can be produced at the high-luminosity LHC and in the part of parameter space, where the model explains the experimental anomalies, it pre…
LHC sensitivity to singly charged scalars decaying into electrons and muons
2020
Current LHC searches for nonsupersymmetric singly charged scalars, based on two-Higgs-doublet models, in general, focus the analysis in third-generation fermions in the final state. However, singly charged scalars in alternative extensions of the scalar sector involve Yukawa couplings not proportional to the mass of the fermions. Assuming the scalar decays into electrons and muons, it can manifest cleaner experimental signatures. In this paper, we suggest that a singly charged scalar singlet, with electroweak production, can start to be probed in the near future with dedicated search strategies. Depending on the strength of the Yukawa couplings, two independent scenarios are considered: dir…
Higgs Pair Production as a Signal of Enhanced Yukawa Couplings
2018
We present a non-trivial correlation between the enhancement of the Higgs-fermion couplings and the Higgs pair production cross section in two Higgs doublet models with a flavour symmetry. This symmetry suppresses flavour-changing neutral couplings of the Higgs boson and allows for a partial explanation of the hierarchy in the Yukawa sector. After taking into account the constraints from electroweak precision measurements, Higgs coupling strength measurements, and unitarity and perturbativity bounds, we identify an interesting region of parameter space leading to enhanced Yukawa couplings as well as enhanced di-Higgs gluon fusion production at the LHC reach. This effect is visible in both t…
Measurement of the Ratioσtt¯/σZ/γ*→lland Precise Extraction of thett¯Cross Section
2010
We report a measurement of the ratio of the t (t) over bar to Z/gamma* production cross sections in root s = 1.96 TeV p (p) over bar collisions using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of up to 4.6 fb(-1), collected by the CDF II detector. The t (t) over bar cross section ratio is measured using two complementary methods, a b-jet tagging measurement and a topological approach. By multiplying the ratios by the well-known theoretical Z/gamma* -> ll cross section predicted by the standard model, the extracted t (t) over bar cross sections are effectively insensitive to the uncertainty on luminosity. A best linear unbiased estimate is used to combine both measurements with the resul…
