Quantum Thermodynamic Perturbation Theory for Fermions

1993

The quantum version of classical thermodynamic perturbation theory is applied to the ground state of a fluid of spin-1/2 fermions interacting via the Aziz interatomic potential, as a model for liquid 3He. Results from the rapidly-convergent sixth-order calculation about the unperturbed hard-sphere fluid for energy, density and sound velocity at the zero-pressure liquid equilibrium point, lie within a few percent of computer-simulation values and appreciably closer than the most elaborate recent variational calculation. The procedure explicitly avoids crossing phase boundaries and is relatively insensitive to varying the close-packing density up to a value somewhat below the maximum possible…

Role of quasiparticles in universal low-temperature properties of

2008

Abstract We demonstrate that the main universal features of the low temperature magnetic field-temperature experimental phase diagram of CeCoIn 5 and other heavy-fermion metals can be well explained within the concept of quasiparticles and fermion condensation quantum phase transition. We analyze dynamic conductance recently obtained in measurements on CeCoIn 5 and show that the particle–hole symmetry is violated in this metal making dynamic conductance asymmetric as a function of applied voltage V .

Universal low-temperature behavior of the CePd_{1-x}Rh_x ferromagnet

2007

The heavy-fermion metal CePd_{1-x}Rh_x evolves from ferromagnetism at x=0 to a non-magnetic state at some critical concentration x_c. Utilizing the quasiparticle picture and the concept of fermion condensation quantum phase transition (FCQPT), we address the question about non-Fermi liquid (NFL) behavior of ferromagnet CePd_{1-x}Rh_x and show that it coincides with that of both antiferromagnet YbRh_2(Si_{0.95}Ge_{0.05})_2 and paramagnet CeRu_2Si_2 and CeNi_2Ge_2. We conclude that the NFL behavior being independent of the peculiarities of specific alloy, is universal, while numerous quantum critical points assumed to be responsible for the NFL behavior of different HF metals can be well redu…

The peculiarities of the phase diagram of heavy fermion metal CeCoIn5

2007

We analyze the low temperature experimental magnetic field–temperature H–T phase diagram of CeCoIn5. We demonstrate that its main features can be well explained within Landau quasiparticle picture incorporating the fact that quasiparticles form so-called fermion-condensate (FC) state emerging behind the fermion condensation quantum phase transition (FCQPT). We show that near FCQPT, the fluctuations are strongly suppressed while FC by itself is “protected” from above fluctuations by the first order phase transition. We demonstrate that the electronic system of CeCoIn5 can be shifted from the ordered towards disordered side of FCQPT by the application of magnetic field therefore giving a uniq…

New actions for minimally doubled fermions and their counterterms

2013

Minimally doubled fermions provide a cheap and convenient way of simulating quarks which preserve chiral symmetry. It has been established that two actions of this kind (known as Borici-Creutz and Karsten-Wilczek) require the tuning of three counterterms in order to be properly renormalized. Here we construct some more general minimally doubled actions and investigate the properties of their counterterms.

Minimally doubled fermions at one loop

2009

Minimally doubled fermions have been proposed as a cost-effective realization of chiral symmetry at non-zero lattice spacing. Using lattice perturbation theory at one loop, we study their renormalization properties. Specifically, we investigate the consequences of the breaking of hyper-cubic symmetry, which is a typical feature of this class of fermionic discretizations. Our results for the quark self-energy indicate that the four-momentum undergoes a renormalization which contains a linearly divergent piece. We also compute renormalization factors for quark bilinears, construct the conserved vector and axial-vector currents and verify that at one loop the renormalization factors of the lat…

Non-perturbative renormalization of static-light four-fermion operators in quenched lattice QCD

2007

We perform a non-perturbative study of the scale-dependent renormalization factors of a multiplicatively renormalizable basis of $\Delta{B}=2$ parity-odd four-fermion operators in quenched lattice QCD. Heavy quarks are treated in the static approximation with various lattice discretizations of the static action. Light quarks are described by non-perturbatively ${\rm O}(a)$ improved Wilson-type fermions. The renormalization group running is computed for a family of Schroedinger functional (SF) schemes through finite volume techniques in the continuum limit. We compute non-perturbatively the relation between the renormalization group invariant operators and their counterparts renormalized in …

ΔF=2 effective Lagrangian in theories with vector-like fermions

1997

In this work we analyze a new piece present in the $\Delta F = 2$ effective Lagrangian in models with extra vector-like quarks. This piece, which was not taken into account previously, is required in order to preserve gauge invariance once the unitarity of the CKM matrix is lost. We illustrate the effects of this new piece in both, CP conserving and CP violating processes.

Constraining models with vector-like fermions from FCNC in K and B physics

2001

In this work, we update the constraints on tree level FCNC couplings in the framework of a theory with n isosinglet vector-like down quarks. In this context, we emphasize the sensitivity of the B -> J/psi K_S CP asymmetry to the presence of new vector-like down quarks. This CP asymmetry, together with the rare decays B -> X_{s,d} l bar{l} and K -> pi nu bar{nu} are the best options to further constrain the FCNC tree level couplings or even to point out, in the near future, the possible presence of vector-like quarks in the low energy spectrum, as suggested by GUT theories or models of large extra dimensions at the TeV scale.

Quark masses and the chiral condensate with a non-perturbative renormalization procedure

1999

We determine the quark masses and the chiral condensate in the MSbar scheme at NNLO from Lattice QCD in the quenched approximation at beta=6.0, beta=6.2 and beta=6.4 using both the Wilson and the tree-level improved SW-Clover fermion action. We extract these quantities using the Vector and the Axial Ward Identities and non-perturbative values of the renormalization constants. We compare the results obtained with the two methods and we study the O(a) dependence of the quark masses for both actions.
