The stochastic limit in the analysis of the open BCS model

2004

In this paper we show how the perturbative procedure known as {\em stochastic limit} may be useful in the analysis of the Open BCS model discussed by Buffet and Martin as a spin system interacting with a fermionic reservoir. In particular we show how the same values of the critical temperature and of the order parameters can be found with a significantly simpler approach.

Decoherence in a fermion environment: Non-Markovianity and Orthogonality Catastrophe

2013

We analyze the non-Markovian character of the dynamics of an open two-level atom interacting with a gas of ultra-cold fermions. In particular, we discuss the connection between the phenomena of orthogonality catastrophe and Fermi edge singularity occurring in such a kind of environment and the memory-keeping effects which are displayed in the time evolution of the open system.

Linear pseudo-fermions

2012

In a recent series of papers we have analyzed a certain deformation of the canonical commutation relations producing an interesting functional structure which has been proved to have some connections with physics, and in particular with quasi-hermitian quantum mechanics. Here we repeat a similar analysis starting with the canonical anticommutation relations. We will show that in this case most of the assumptions needed in the former situation are automatically satisfied, making our construction rather {\em friendly}. We discuss some examples of our construction, again related to quasi-hermitian quantum mechanics, and the bi-coherent states for the system.

Detecting topology through dynamics in interacting fermionic wires

2020

We describe a protocol to read out the topological invariant of interacting 1D chiral models, based on measuring the mean chiral displacement of time-evolving bulk excitations. We present analytical calculations and numerical Matrix Product State simulations of interacting Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) chains, demonstrating how the mean chiral displacement allows to distinguish between topological insulator, trivial insulator and symmetry-broken phases. Finally, we provide an experimental blueprint for realizing a model displaying these three phases and describe how to detect those.

Probing the superconducting state of UPd2Al3 thin films by tunneling spectroscopy

1997

Abstract Giaever-type planar cross junctions of thin films of the heavy fermion superconductor UPd2Al3 and counter-electrodes of Au, Ag and Al were prepared. Tunneling barriers consisting of the native oxide layer of UPd2Al3 and artificial barriers of AlOx and UOx were investigated. The junctions without artificial barrier show a lack of reproducebility. On some junctions a BCS-like tunneling conductivity with a ratio of 2Δ 0 /k B T c ⋍ 3.8 was observed. Using oxidized Al deposited at room temperature as a barrier no substantial increase of the junction resistance occured. With Uraniumoxide a much higher resistance was obtained, but an association of the bias dependent junction conductivity…

Preparation of thin films of the heavy fermion superconductor UNi2Al3

2004

Abstract Thin films of the heavy fermion superconductor UNi 2 Al 3 were prepared by coevaporation of the elementary components in an MBE-system. We obtained textured (1 0 0)-oriented films of this hexagonal compound depositing on Al 2 O 3 substrates. Epitaxial growth was observed on (1 1 2)-oriented orthorhombical YAlO 3 substrates. However, due to pronounced strain the UNi 2 Al 3 (1 0 0)-axis is shortened by ≈2%. No superconductivity of the films was observed which can be associated with the high impurity concentration deduced from R ( T ) and XRD investigations.

Andreev Reflection at Point Contacts with Heavy-FermionUBe13?

2000

We comment on a recent Letter by Waelti et al. (PRL 84, 5616 (2000)) on 'Spectroscopic evidence for unconventional superconductivity in UBe13'. We show - by using the basic Wexler formula - that it is unlikely to observe Andreev reflection at point contacts between UBe13 and a normal metal. The large superconducting anomalies usually found for those contacts are mainly due to the resistive Maxwell resistance vanishing below Tc of UBe13.

Magnetic phase diagrams in heavy-fermion compounds

1990

Magnetic phase diagrams have been explored in heavy-fermion (HF) compounds by controlled changes of the stoichiometry (UCu4+xAl8−x), dopant concentration (Ce(Cu1−xNix)2Ge2) and magnetic field (CeCu2Si2). The results demonstr competition (i) between Kondo and RKKY interactions in the former two compounds and (ii) between HF superconductivity and some cooperative state, presumably HF band magnetism, in the latter.

Anisotropic transport properties ofUNi2Al3thin films

2007

Experimental results on the transport anisotropy in thin films of the heavy fermion superconductor $\mathrm{U}{\mathrm{Ni}}_{2}{\mathrm{Al}}_{3}$ are presented. They show that the eletronic transport in $\mathrm{U}{\mathrm{Ni}}_{2}{\mathrm{Al}}_{3}$ for different directions is strongly dominated by different sheets of the Fermi surface, and that the magnetic moments must be assigned to a cylindrical part around the $c$ axis. Founded on the findings about the Fermi surface, the dependence of the resistive superconducting transition temperature ${T}_{c}$ on the current direction in $\mathrm{U}{\mathrm{Ni}}_{2}{\mathrm{Al}}_{3}$ can be explained as the result of weakly coupled superconducting …
