Braquiópodos devónicos de la Cordillera Cantábrica (Norte de España). 12) Ferronirhynchia nuevo género de rinconélido (Trigonirhynchiidae) del Emsien…

2021

The taxonomic status of the subfamily Trigonirhynchiinae is discussed based on the morphological features, together with the geographic and the stratigraphic distribution of the type genus  Trigonirhynchia  Cooper. The new genus,  Ferronirhynchia  n. gen., including the type species  F. pulgari  n. sp., is proposed. The new taxon, close to  Trigonirhynchia , occurs in upper Emsian beds of the Moniello Formation, in Asturias,  serotinus/patulus  conodont zones, Faunal Intervals 14 to 16a. The ontogeny and palaeoecology of  F. pulgari  are analyzed. Growth of the new species is bicyclic. Juvenile forms are low and biconvex displaying sharp commissures. Adult forms are high, dorsi-biconvex, ge…

Polarized neutron diffraction and Mössbauer spectral study of short-range magnetic correlations in the ferrimagnetic layered compounds(PPh4)[FeIIFeII…

2002

Short-range antiferromagnetic correlations have been studied in the layered compounds (PPh 4 ) [Fe I I Fe I I I (ox) 3 ] and (NBu 4 ) [Fe I I Fe I I I (ox) 3 ] by neutron polarization analysis and Mossbauer spectroscopy. Polarized neutron diffraction profiles obtained between 2 and 50 K on (d 2 0 -PPh 4 ) [Fe I I Fe I I I (ox) 3 ] show no magnetic Bragg scattering; the lack of such scattering indicates the absence of long-range magnetic order. However, a broad asymmetric feature observed at a Q of ca. 0.8 A - 1 is attributed to two-dimensional short-range magnetic correlations, which are described by a Warren function. The correlation length is ca. 50 A between 2 and 30 K and then decreases…

Magnetic and structural investigations of ultra-thin Co–Fe alloy films on W(1 1 0)

2004

Abstract We investigated ultra-thin CoxFe1−x films on a flat and vicinal BCC W(1 1 0) surface with thicknesses between 1.8 and 7 monolayers (ML) using longitudinal Kerr magnetometry. We found a transition from magnetic bulk behavior between 3 and 4 ML to the monolayer. The maximum of the remnant Kerr signal that appears for thicker films at x=0.5 turns into a minimum for a sample thickness below 4 ML , while the specific Kerr-rotation per monolayer shows the well known bulk behavior. A similar magnetic behavior on the flat as well as on the stepped part of the substrate indicates that this is an intrinsic property. For x=0.5 the pseudomorphic monolayer is paramagnetic even when it is covere…

Correlation of quenched structural disorder and magnetism inTiFe2Laves-phase thin films

2002

In recent bandstructure calculations for the $C14$ Laves-phase intermetallic compound ${\mathrm{TiFe}}_{2}$ two energetically nearly degenerate magnetic ground states (antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic) were predicted. As a consequence of this near-degeneracy in the $C14$ stability range of ${\mathrm{Ti}}_{x}{\mathrm{Fe}}_{1\ensuremath{-}x}$ $(x\ensuremath{\approx}1/3)$ the magnetic properties are strongly correlated with the sublattices' occupation by Ti and Fe. We analyzed the magnetic properties of a series of thin epitaxial films with varying composition in the $C14$ stability range. The temperature- and field-dependent magnetic properties of these samples were determined by dc superc…

Antiferromagnetic order competing with topological state in CexBi2−xTe3

2015

The topological surface states in three-dimensional topological insulators are easily tuned by chemical doping, especially by magnetic impurities. We prepared single crystals of CexBi2−xTe3 with various x (=0.04, 0.06, 0.08, 0.10, and 0.12). The obtained crystals were characterized by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The magnetic susceptibility data revealed that the Ce atoms are well substituted for Bi into Bi2Te3. From the Curie-Weiss fits, we observed that the effective magnetic moments μeff are close to 2.54 μB for free Ce ion, and the paramagnetic Curie-Weiss temperatures θp are negatively increased from 2.87 K to −59.3 K with increasing x. The magnetization data cle…

Element-Specific Magnetic and Electronic Properties of Epitaxial Heusler Films

2015

X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) provides an experimental access to element-specific electronic properties of thin epitaxial films of Heusler alloys. The combination of bulk-sensitive transmission and surface-sensitive electron yield methods reveals quantitative information on bulk and interface properties. Extreme cases of magnetically dead and life layers at interfaces illustrate the high potential of XMCD. The dependence of XMCD on disorder, structure and composition is discussed as well as dynamic properties investigated by a combination of ferromagnetic resonance and XMCD. Examples are shown where spectroscopic information provided by XMCD is exploited to discuss subtle changes…

Proposal to Detect Dark Matter using Axionic Topological Antiferromagnets

2019

Antiferromagnetically doped topological insulators (A-TI) are among the candidates to host dynamical axion fields and axion-polaritons; weakly interacting quasiparticles that are analogous to the dark axion, a long sought after candidate dark matter particle. Here we demonstrate that using the axion quasiparticle antiferromagnetic resonance in A-TI's in conjunction with low-noise methods of detecting THz photons presents a viable route to detect axion dark matter with mass 0.7 to 3.5 meV, a range currently inaccessible to other dark matter detection experiments and proposals. The benefits of this method at high frequency are the tunability of the resonance with applied magnetic field, and t…

Estimation of Passenger Car Equivalents for single-lane roundabouts using a microsimulation-based procedure

2017

Calibration of microscopic traffic simulation models for single-lane roundabouts.Use of a meta-analytical estimation of critical and follow up headways.Use of a genetic algorithm-based procedure.Calculation of passenger car equivalents for single-lane roundabouts. Passenger car equivalents for heavy vehicles are required to carry out capacity calculations and perform operational analysis of any road entity (roadway segments or intersections). At single-lane roundabouts, the constraints to the vehicular trajectories imposed by the curvilinear geometric design and the driver's gap acceptance behaviour are expected to produce an impact of the heavy vehicles on the quality of traffic flow diffe…

Brain iron deposition after Ferumoxytol-enhanced MRI: A study of Porcine Brains

2020

Recent evidence of gadolinium deposition in the brain has raised safety concerns. Iron oxide nanoparticles are re-emerging as promising alternative MR contrast agents, because the iron core can be metabolized. However, long-term follow up studies of the brain after intravenous iron oxide administration have not been reported thus far. In this study, we investigated, if intravenously administered ferumoxytol nanoparticles are deposited in porcine brains. Methods: In an animal care and use committee-approved prospective case-control study, ten Gottingen minipigs received either intravenous ferumoxytol injections at a dose of 5 mg Fe/kg (n=4) or remained untreated (n=6). Nine to twelve months …
