Ferromagnetic exchange interaction in a new Ir(iv)-Cu(ii) chain based on the hexachloroiridate(iv) anion.
2019
The iridium(IV) complex (NBu4)2[IrCl6] (1) has been synthetised, characterised and used as a precursor to prepare the new chloro-bridged heterobimetallic IrIV–CuII chain of formula {IrCl5(μ-Cl)Cu(viim)4}n (2) [viim = 1-vinylimidazole]. The crystal structure and magnetic properties of 1 and 2 have been investigated. Both compounds crystallise in the monoclinic system with space group C2/c. Each IrIV ion in both 1 and 2 is six-coordinate and bonded to six chloride ions in a regular octahedral geometry. In compound 2, the CuII ion exhibits an axially elongated octahedron with four N atoms, from four monodentate viim ligands, that form the equatorial plane, and two chloride ions that occupy the…
Point Defects, Dielectric Relaxation and Conductivity in Ferroelectric Perovskites
2000
In all ferroelectric perovskites, intentionally introduced or “unwanted” point defects do play a role in the dielectric spectra and in the conductivity.
Novel GTA-PVA Fricke gels for three-dimensional dose mapping in radiotherapy
2017
Abstract One of the most recent and promising developments in radiotherapy dosimetry was the introduction of 3D radiation-sensitive gels. These gels present tissue equivalent composition and density, so they also serve as phantoms, and their response is largely independent of radiation quality and dose rate. Some gels are infused with ferrous sulfate and rely on the radiation-induced oxidation of ferrous ions to ferric ions (Fricke-gels). These formulations suffer from spontaneous-oxidation and diffusion of ferric ions after irradiation; chelating agents such as xylenol-orange significantly reduces the latter. Other gel types consist of dispersed monomers, and rely on radiation-induced cros…
Doped semiconductors as half-metallic materials: Experiments and first-principles calculations ofCoTi1−xMxSb(M=Sc, V, Cr, Mn, Fe)
2008
This work reports experiments and first-principles calculations on the substitutional semiconducting $C{1}_{b}$ compound $\mathrm{Co}{\mathrm{Ti}}_{1\ensuremath{-}x}{M}_{x}\mathrm{Sb}$. Diluted magnetic semiconductors have been prepared by substituting titanium in the semiconducting compound CoTiSb by other $3d$ transition elements $M$. Self-consistent calculations of the electronic structure predict some of the materials to be half-metallic ferromagnets. The structural, electronic, electric, and magnetic properties of the pure and substituted materials have been investigated. It is found from the experiments that substitution of up to 10% Ti by Fe, Mn, Cr, and V does not affect the crystal…
Mn2+-induced room-temperature ferromagnetism and spin-glass behavior in hydrothermally grown Mn-doped ZnO nanorods
2014
The magnetic properties of Mn-doped ZnO (ZnO:Mn) nanorods grown by hydrothermal process at a temperature of 200 °C and a growth time of 3 h have been studied. The samples were characterized by using powder X-ray diffraction with Rietveld refinement, scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray analysis and SQUID magnetometry. Mn (3 wt%) and (5 wt%)-doped ZnO samples exhibit paramagnetic and ferromagnetic behavior, respectively, at room temperature. The spin-glass behavior is observed from the samples with respect to the decrease of temperature. At 10 K, both samples exhibit a hysteresis loop with relatively low coercivity. The room-temperature ferromagnetism in 5 wt% Mn-doped ZnO n…

Local Structure of Multiferroic MnWO4 and Mn0.7Co0.3WO4 Revealed by the Evolutionary Algorithm
2015
A novel reverse Monte Carlo/evolutionary algorithm scheme was applied to the analysis of the W L3-edge and Mn(Co) K-edges EXAFS spectra from multiferroic MnWO4 and Mn0.7Co0.3WO4. A 3D structural model, consistent with the experimental data, was obtained, and the influence of composition and temperature on the local structure of tungstates is discussed.
Magnetic resonance study of bulk and thin film EuTiO3
2017
Magnetic resonance spectra of EuTiO3 in both bulk and thin film form were taken at temperatures from 3-350 K and microwave frequencies from 9.2-9.8 and 34 GHz. In the paramagnetic phase, magnetic resonance spectra are determined by magnetic dipole and exchange interactions between Eu2+ spins. In the film, a large contribution arises from the demagnetization field. From detailed analysis of the linewidth and its temperature dependence, the parameters of spin-spin interactions were determined: the exchange frequency is 15-15.5 GHz and the estimated critical exponent of the spin correlation length is ~ 0.5. In the bulk samples, the spectra exhibited a distinct minimum in the linewidth at the N…
Charge and spin photocurrents in the Rashba model
2017
In metallic noncentrosymmetric crystals and at surfaces the response of spin currents and charge currents to applied electric fields contains contributions that are second order in the electric field, which are forbidden by symmetry in centrosymmetric systems. Thereby, photocurrents and spin photocurrents can be generated in inversion asymmetric metals by the application of femtosecond laser pulses. We study the laser-induced charge current in the ferromagnetic Rashba model with in-plane magnetization and find that this \textit{magnetic photogalvanic effect} can be tuned to be comparable in size to the laser-induced photocurrents measured experimentally in magnetic bilayer systems such as C…
Optimal ferromagnetically-coated carbon nanotube tips for ultra-high resolution magnetic force microscopy
2013
Using single-walled carbon nanotubes homogeneously coated with ferromagnetic metal as ultra-high resolution magnetic force microscopy probes, we investigate the key image formation parameters and their dependence on coating thickness. The crucial step of introducing molecular beam epitaxy for deposition of the magnetic coating allows highly controlled fabrication of tips with small magnetic volume, while retaining high magnetic anisotropy and prolonged lifetime characteristics. Calculating the interaction between the tips and a magnetic sample, including hitherto neglected thermal noise effects, we show that optimal imaging is achieved for a finite, intermediate-thickness magnetic coating, …
