On the evaluation of a certain class of Feynman diagrams in x-space: Sunrise-type topologies at any loop order

2005

We review recently developed new powerful techniques to compute a class of Feynman diagrams at any loop order, known as sunrise-type diagrams. These sunrise-type topologies have many important applications in many different fields of physics and we believe it to be timely to discuss their evaluation from a unified point of view. The method is based on the analysis of the diagrams directly in configuration space which, in the case of the sunrise-type diagrams and diagrams related to them, leads to enormous simplifications as compared to the traditional evaluation of loops in momentum space. We present explicit formulae for their analytical evaluation for arbitrary mass configurations and arb…

Recent Developments in one and two Pion Production in Elementary Reactions and Few-Body Systems

1995

In this talk we cover several issues concerning pion production. The first one is the pp → ppπ 0 reaction where an alternative explanation based on the off shell extrapolation of the πN amplitude is offered. A recent model for the γN → ππN reaction is presented and a new kind of exchange current is constructed from it which allows one to address problems like double ∆ photoproduction from the deuteron. Finally the (γ, ππ) reaction in nuclei is studied and shown to be highly sensitive to the renormalization of the pions in nuclei.

Double Pion Production Reactions

1999

We report on reactions producing two pions induced by real and virtual photons or nucleons. The role of different resonances in these reactions is emphasized. Novel results on coherent 2π photoproduction in nuclei are also reported.

Inclusive production ofp-resonaces in πN-interactions

1991

A theoretical analysis of the inclusive production ofp-mesons in πN-collisions is carried out. It is shown that the reggeized pion exchange mechanism describes well a large set of the experimental data in the region of the Feynman variablex>0.6. The combination with the model of quark-gluon strings leads to a good agreement with the experiment for allx. The inclusive production of high spin resonances is discussed.

Relation between spin–orbit induced spin polarization, Fano-effect and circular dichroism in soft x-ray photoemission

2019

A Feynman diagram analysis of photoemission probabilities suggests a relation between two final-state spin polarization effects, the optical spin-orientation originating from the interaction with circularly polarized light ([Formula: see text], Fano effect) and the spin polarization induced by the spin-orbit scattering ([Formula: see text], Mott effect). The analysis predicts that [Formula: see text] is proportional to the product of [Formula: see text] and the circular dichroism in the angular distribution (CDAD) of photoelectrons. To confirm this prediction, the spin polarization of photoelectrons excited by soft x-ray radiation from initial spin-degenerate bulk states of tungsten using t…

From loops to trees by-passing Feynman's theorem

2008

We derive a duality relation between one-loop integrals and phase-space integrals emerging from them through single cuts. The duality relation is realized by a modification of the customary +i0 prescription of the Feynman propagators. The new prescription regularizing the propagators, which we write in a Lorentz covariant form, compensates for the absence of multiple-cut contributions that appear in the Feynman Tree Theorem. The duality relation can be applied to generic one-loop quantities in any relativistic, local and unitary field theories. %It is suitable for applications to the analytical calculation of %one-loop scattering amplitudes, and to the numerical evaluation of %cross-section…

Infrared finite ghost propagator in the Feynman gauge

2007

We demonstrate how to obtain from the Schwinger-Dyson equations of QCD an infrared finite ghost propagator in the Feynman gauge. The key ingredient in this construction is the longitudinal form factor of the non-perturbative gluon-ghost vertex, which, contrary to what happens in the Landau gauge, contributes non-trivially to the gap equation of the ghost. The detailed study of the corresponding vertex equation reveals that in the presence of a dynamical infrared cutoff this form factor remains finite in the limit of vanishing ghost momentum. This, in turn, allows the ghost self-energy to reach a finite value in the infrared, without having to assume any additional properties for the gluon-g…

Measurement of the transverse polarization ofΛandΛ¯hyperons produced in proton-proton collisions ats=7  TeVusing the ATLAS detector

2015

The transverse polarization of Λ and Λ¯ hyperons produced in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV is measured. The analysis uses 760  μb−1 of minimum bias data collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC in the year 2010. The measured transverse polarization averaged over Feynman xF from 5×10−5 to 0.01 and transverse momentum pT from 0.8 to 15 GeV is −0.010±0.005(stat)±0.004(syst) for Λ and 0.002±0.006(stat)±0.004(syst) for Λ¯. It is also measured as a function of xF and pT, but no significant dependence on these variables is observed. Prior to this measurement, the polarization was measured at fixed-target experiments with center-of-mass energies up to about 40 GeV. …

Use of helicity methods in evaluating loop integrals: A QCD example

1991

We discuss the use of helicity methods in evaluating loop diagrams by analyzing a specific example: the one-loop contribution to e+e- → qqg in massless QCD. By using covariant helicity representations for the spinor and vector wave functions we obtain the helicity amplitudes directly from the Feynman loop diagrams by covariant contraction. The necessary loop integrations are considerably simplified since one encounters only scalar loop integrals after contraction. We discuss crossing relations that allow one to obtain the corresponding one-loop helicity amplitudes for the crossed processes as e.g. qq → (W, Z, γ∗) + g including the real photon cases. As we treat the spin degrees of freedom i…

General analysis of weak decay form factors in heavy to heavy and heavy to light baryon transitions

1992

We present a complete analysis of the heavy to heavy and heavy to light baryon semi-leptonic decays in the heavy quark effective theory within the framework of a Bethe-Salpeter (BS) approach and demonstrate the equivalence of this approach to other work in the field. We present in a compact form the baryon BS amplitudes which incorporate the symmetries manifest in the heavy quark limit and which also show clearly the light quark dynamics. A similar form of the BS amplitude is presented for light baryons. Using the BS amplitudes, the heavy to heavy and heavy to light semi-leptonic baryon decays are considered. As expected there is a dramatic reduction in the number of form factors. An advant…
