Del Pezzo elliptic varieties of degree d <= 4

Let Y be a smooth del Pezzo variety of dimension n&gt;=3, i.e. a smooth complex projective variety endowed with an ample divisor H such that K_Y = (n+1)H. Let d be the degree H^n of Y and assume that d &gt;= 4. Consider a linear subsystem of |H| whose base locus is zero-dimensional of length d. The subsystem defines a rational map onto P^{n-1} and, under some mild extra hypothesis, the general pseudofibers are elliptic curves. We study the elliptic fibration X -&gt; P^{n-1} obtained by resolving the indeterminacy and call the variety X a del Pezzo elliptic variety. On Higgs bundles over Shimura varieties of ball quotient type

We prove the generic exclusion of certain Shimura varieties of unitary and orthogonal types from the Torelli locus. The proof relies on a slope inequality on surface fibration due to G. Xiao, and the main result implies that certain Shimura varieties only meet the Torelli locus in dimension zero.

Compactifying Torus Fibrations Over Integral Affine Manifolds with Singularities

This is an announcement of the following construction: given an integral affine manifold B with singularities, we build a topological space X which is a torus fibration over B. The main new feature of the fibration X → B is that it has the discriminant in codimension 2.

On cubic elliptic varieties

Let X-&gt;P^(n-1) be an elliptic fibration obtained by resolving the indeterminacy of the projection of a cubic hypersurface Y of P^(n+1) from a line L not contained in Y. We prove that the Mordell-Weil group of the elliptic fibration is finite if and only if the Cox ring of X is finitely generated. We also provide a presentation of the Cox ring of X when it is finitely generated.

Fibered aspects of Yoneda's regular span

In this paper we start by pointing out that Yoneda's notion of a regular span $S \colon \mathcal{X} \to \mathcal{A} \times \mathcal{B}$ can be interpreted as a special kind of morphism, that we call fiberwise opfibration, in the 2-category $\mathsf{Fib}(\mathcal{A})$. We study the relationship between these notions and those of internal opfibration and two-sided fibration. Motives of quadric bundles and relative intermediate jacobians of K3-Fano pairs

This thesis consists of two parts. In the first part we study the Chow motive of a quadric bundle of odd relative dimension over a surface. We show that this motive admits a decomposition which involves the Prym motive of the double covering of the discriminant curve.In the second part, we consider Lagrangian fibrations, obtained as relative intermediate Jacobians of families of Fano threefolds containing a fixed K3 surface, and the existence of a symplectic compactification. In a particular case, we study a partial compactification using calculations with the software system Macaulay2.

On Pseudofunctors Sending Groups to 2-Groups

For a category B with finite products, we first characterize pseudofunctors from B to Cat whose corresponding opfibration is cartesian monoidal. Among those, we then characterize the ones which extend to pseudofunctors from internal groups to 2-groups. If B is additive, this is the case precisely when the corresponding opfibration has groupoidal fibres.

Abstract Given a smooth morphism Y → S and a proper morphism P → S of algebraic varieties we give a sufficient condition for extending an S-morphism U → P , where U is an open subset of Y, to an S-morphism Y → P , analogous to Zariski's main theorem.

Arithmetic and geometry of a K3 surface emerging from virtual corrections to Drell–Yan scattering

We study a K3 surface, which appears in the two-loop mixed electroweak-quantum chromodynamic virtual corrections to Drell--Yan scattering. A detailed analysis of the geometric Picard lattice is presented, computing its rank and discriminant in two independent ways: first using explicit divisors on the surface and then using an explicit elliptic fibration. We also study in detail the elliptic fibrations of the surface and use them to provide an explicit Shioda--Inose structure. Moreover, we point out the physical relevance of our results.

On the gonality and the slope of a fibered surface

Abstract Let f : X → B be a locally non-trivial relatively minimal fibration of curves of genus g ≥ 2 . We obtain a lower bound of the slope λ ( f ) increasing with the gonality of the general fiber of f. In particular, we show that λ ( f ) ≥ 4 provided that f is non-hyperelliptic and g ≥ 16 .
