Aims Different cardiac arrhythmias have been suggested to be associated with Danon disease, e.g. Wolff–Parkinson–White syndrome. However, a systematic electrophysiological investigation of patients with Danon disease is lacking thus far. Methods and results Seven patients with Danon disease (4 males, 35.8 ± 10.8 years; 3 females, 51.3 ± 19.9 years) from 3 different families were studied. Objective: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a major cause for recurrent stroke, has severe impact on a patient's health and imposes a high economic burden for society. Current guidelines recommend 24 h ECG monitoring (standard-of-care, SoC) to detect AF after stroke to reduce the risk of future events. However, paroxysmal AF (PAF) is difficult to detect within this period as it occurs infrequently and unpredictably. Background Nemaline myopathy (NM) is a rare congenital myopathy characterized by muscle weakness, hypotonia and the presence in muscle fibers of inclusions known as nemaline bodies and a wide spectrum of clinical phenotypes, ranging from severe forms with neonatal onset to asymptomatic forms. The adult-onset form is heterogeneous in terms of clinical presentation and disease progression. Cardiac involvement occurs in the minority of cases and little is known about medical management in this subgroup of NM patients. Tendons are strong hierarchical structures, but how tensile forces are transmitted between different levels remains incompletely understood. Collagen fibrils are thought to be primary determinants of whole tendon properties, and therefore we hypothesized that the whole human patellar tendon and its distinct collagen fibrils would display similar mechanical properties. Human patellar tendons ( n = 5) were mechanically tested in vivo by ultrasonography. Biopsies were obtained from each tendon, and individual collagen fibrils were dissected and tested mechanically by atomic force microscopy. The expression patterns of intermediate filament proteins of primary and metastatic endometrial (n = 18) and ovarian (n = 24) adenocarcinomas were analyzed by immunocytochemistry using a panel of specific antibodies and by gel electrophoresis of cytoskeletal preparations, followed by immunoblotting. All cells of all endometrial adenocarcinomas studied contained the "simple epithelial"-type cytokeratins (CKs) 8, 18, and (mostly) 19, with variable numbers of cells also positive for CK 7 and vimentin. The histological features of mucoepidermoid mammary carcinomas (MMCs) are presented, and criteria for distinguishing these tumours from squamous epithelial metaplasia in other mammary carcinomas are considered. Immunohistochemical and gel-electrophoretic analyses of the intermediate-filament proteins in one MMC case revealed a complex pattern of cytokeratin polypeptide expression. Neural, mechanical and muscle factors influence muscle force production. This study was, therefore, designed to compare possible differences in the function of the neuromuscular system among differently adapted subjects. A group of 11 power-trained athletes and 10 endurance-trained athletes volunteered as subjects for this study. Maximal voluntary isometric force and the rate of force production of the knee extensor and the plantar flexor muscles were measured. In addition, basic reflex function was measured in the two experimental conditions.
