Synthesis of (−)-auricularic acid and its C-4 epimer the absolute configuration of auricularic acid

1991

Abstract A synthesis of (−)-auricularic acid (2a) starting from methyl (+)-13-oxo- podocarp-8(14)-en-19-oate (3a) and a synthesis of its C-4 epimer (2b) starting from methyl (+)-13-oxopodocarp-8(14)-en-18-oate (3b) are described. The absolute configuration of natural auricularic acid is stablished as (4R, 5S, 8S, 9R, 10S, 14S).

Assignment of the Absolute Configuration and Total Synthesis of (+)-Caripyrin

2014

The antifungal secondary metabolite (+)-caripyrin was studied by vibrational circular dichroism spectroscopy. Analysis of the recorded data, with the Boltzmann weighted-average of the spectra calculated at the B3LYP/6-311G(d,p) level of theory for all relevant conformers, unequivocally proved the (R,R)-configuration for the dextrorotatory natural product. Based on this finding, a short enantioselective synthesis of (+)-caripyrin was developed.

Crystal structures and absolute configurations of dexmedetomidine and its tosyl derivative

1993

Abstract X-ray diffraction data were used to determine the absolute configuration of dexmedetomidine, a new member of a class of drugs with 4-arylalkyl-1H-imidazole structure. When the anomalous effect of the parent compound proved to be too small for determination of the absolute configuration the tosyl derivative, with the same configuration, was synthesised and used as a reference. Stability of the stereogenic center was verified by HPLC technique. The absolute configuration of the compounds is S. Complete crystal structures are reported for both compounds. Co radiation was used for measurements.

Exploring the Potential of Short-Baseline Physics at Fermilab

2018

We study the capabilities of the short baseline neutrino program at Fermilab to probe the unitarity of the lepton mixing matrix. We find the sensitivity to be slightly better than the current one. Motivated by the future DUNE experiment, we have also analyzed the potential of an extra liquid Argon near detector in the LBNF beamline. Adding such a near detector to the DUNE setup will substantially improve the current sensitivity on non-unitarity. This would help to remove CP degeneracies due to the new complex phase present in the neutrino mixing matrix. We also study the sensitivity of our proposed setup to light sterile neutrinos for various configurations.

Roughness of two nonintersecting one-dimensional interfaces.

2006

The dynamics of two spatially discrete one-dimensional single-step model interfaces with a noncrossing constraint is studied in both nonsymmetric propagating and symmetric relaxing cases. We consider possible scaling scenarios and study a few special cases by using continuous-time Monte Carlo simulations. The roughness of the interfaces is observed to be nonmonotonic as a function of time, and in the stationary state it is nonmonotonic also as a function of the strength of the effective force driving the interfaces against each other. This is related on the one hand to the reduction of the available configuration space and on the other hand to the ability of the interfaces to conform to eac…

Revisiting the Trade-off Between Risk and Incentives: The Shocking Effect of Random Shocks?

2019

Despite its central role in the theory of incentives, empirical evidence of a trade-off between risk and incentives remains scarce. We reexamine this trade-off in a workplace lab environment and find that, in line with theory, principals increase fixed pay while lowering performance pay when the relationship between effort and output is noisier. Unexpectedly, agents produce substantially more in the noisy environment than in the baseline despite weaker incentives. In addition, principals’ earnings are significantly higher in the noisy environment. We show that these findings can be accounted for when agents maximize a non-CARA utility function or when they exhibit loss aversion. Data and t…

Turn, turn, turn : perceiving global and local, clockwise and counterclockwise rotations

2015

International audience; We developed a series of dynamic geometric Navon figures in order to study global/local rotation processing. These figures consist of a global figure (a triangle or a square) made up of local figures (also triangles or squares). Both global and local figures can rotate in either clockwise or counterclockwise directions independently. We found that there is no right or left visual field perceptual advantage for either the global or local levels of these figures, as in Sergent (1982). We did, however, find a significant processing advantage for clockwise motion compared to counterclockwise motion. We also found a highly significant interaction between the detection of …

Current knowledge of the subfamily Anacharitinae (Hymenoptera: Figitidae) in the Australasian region

2015

A revision of the Anacharitinae material from Australia and New Zealand deposited in the Natural History Museum of London and material from Papua New Guinea deposited in the Museum National d'Histoire Naturelle of Paris was conducted. The ranges of the previously known described Anacharis zealandica Ashmead and Xyalaspis victoriensis New are expanded. A new Australasian species of Anacharis Dalman, Anacharis tasmaniae sp. nov., is described, and the genus Aegilips Haliday is cited for the first time in the region, with the description of Aegilips papuensis sp. nov. The biology and distribution patterns of Australa- sian anacharitines are discussed.

Description of Two New Species of Anacharitinae (Hymenoptera: Figitidae) from the Afrotropical Region

2014

An revision of current knowledge on subfamily Anacharitinae for the Afrotropical Region is given. Two new species are described: Acanthaegilopsis hemicoriaceus Mata-Casanova & Pujade-Villar sp. n. and Xyalaspis subsaharica Mata-Casanova & Pujade-Villar sp. n. Diagnostic characters are illustrated and data about biology, distribution and morphological variability are discussed.
