Abstract Ethylene vertical excitation energies (VEE) below 9.5 eV have been calculated with the complete active-space singles and doubles configuration interaction self-consistent size-consistent dressing (SC) 2 CAS–SDCI. The mean of the absolute deviation from experiment for the calculated VEE are 0.14, 0.05 and 0.03 eV for three different molecular orbital (MO) sets tried. The results show that an uncontracted method and a realistic MO set avoid the difficulties present in the calculation of the strongly mixed Rydberg-valence 1B 1u states.

The data processing step of complex signals in high-performance liquid chromatography may constitute a bottleneck to obtain significant information from chromatograms. Data pre-processing should be preferably done with little (or no) user supervision, for a maximal benefit and highest speed. In this work, a tool for the configuration of a state-of-the-art baseline subtraction algorithm, called BEADS (Baseline Estimation And Denoising using Sparsity) is developed and verified. Thermoelectric properties of CoTiSb based compounds

Several CoTiSb based compounds were synthesized and investigated on their thermoelectric properties. The aim was to improve the thermoelectric properties of CoTiSb by the systematic substitution of atoms or the introduction of additional Co into the vacant sublattice. The solid solutions Co1+xTiSb, Co1?yCuyTiSb and CoTiSb1?zBiz were synthesized. X-ray diffraction was used to investigate the crystal structure. The resistivity, the Seebeck coefficient and the thermal conductivity were determined for all compounds in the temperature range from 2 to 400?K. Modern communications networks are complex systems, which facilitates malicious behavior. Dynamic web services are vulnerable to unknown intrusions, but traditional cyber security measures are based on fingerprinting. Anomaly detection differs from fingerprinting in that it finds events that differ from the baseline traffic. The anomaly detection methodology can be modelled with the knowledge discovery process. Knowledge discovery is a high-level term for the whole process of deriving actionable knowledge from databases. Enantiospecific Brook Rearrangement of Tertiary Benzylic α-Hydroxysilanes

The Brook rearrangement of simple, chiral tertiary benzylic -hydroxysilanes is presented. The rearrangement followed by proton trapping is enantiospecific and proceeds with inversion of the configuration at the carbon center. Importantly, the [1,2]-Brook rearrangement can be followed by trapping of methyl or allyl electrophiles even in the protic environment, although with minimal retention of chirality.
An FPGA-Based Adaptive Fuzzy Coprocessor

The architecture of a general purpose fuzzy logic coprocessor and its implementation on an FPGA based System on Chip is described. Thanks to its ability to support a fast dynamic reconfiguration of all its parameters, it is suitable for implementing adaptive fuzzy logic algorithms, or for the execution of different fuzzy algorithms in a time sharing fashion. The high throughput obtained using a pipelined structure and the efficient data organization allows significant increase of the computational capabilities strongly desired in applications with hard real-time constraints.
