Cheek Volumization and the Nasolabial Fold.

Sir: We have read the article by Mowlds and Lambros1 with great interest and enthusiasm. The findings of their study show that the nasolabial fold does not improve after cheek injection. By analyzing three-dimensional images of the face before and immediately after cheek injection of high- G′ hyaluronic acid, they demonstrate that the perceived nasolabial fold improvement, reported after cheek injections,2,3 is attributable to overall improvement in facial appearance rather than to actual nasolabial fold improvement. Nonsurgical treatment of earlobe aging in Mowlavi stages I and II earlobe ptosis with Hyaluronic acid fillers.

Background: Earlobe deflation caused by fat atrophy is normally treated with lipofilling, mostly in the context of facelift surgery. In this report, we aim at reporting on Hyaluronic Acid injections to treat earlobe deflation. Materials and Methods: 16 Mowlavi Grade I and II patients were treated with HA injections, followed by molding to shape the lobule. Results: Effective correction, lasting 14 months on average, is achieved. Five patients needed a touch-up procedure after 4-6 months to improve the result. Conclusions: Earlobe augmentation with HA is an ideal option for correction of earlobe atrophy in cases of Mowlavi Grades I and II ptosis. Long-lasting (about 14 months) correction is …

A semi-empirical stress-strain model for equivalent strut fiber-section modeling of infilled frames

Infill-frame interaction is commonly modeled by means of equivalent strut macro-models. The main difficulty in using this phenomenological approach is to properly calibrate a force-displacement curve for the struts, as this depends not only on the geometrical and mechanical properties, but more specifically on the different potential damage mechanisms which may occur for the infill-frame system subject to lateral forces. If fiber-section elements are used as diagonal struts, the force-displacement curve is substituted by a stress-strain law. The paper investigates the role of masonry infill walls on the seismic fragility of reinforced concrete structures subject to mainshock/aftershock sequences. An assessment framework aimed at determining aftershock fragility curves of bare frames and infilled frames is presented. The framework is based on a Double Incremental Dynamic Analysis (D-IDA) approach, which provides the adoption of ground motions defined by combining a fixed intensity mainshock with a set of variable intensity aftershocks. Macroelement Model for In-Plane and Out-of-Plane Responses of Masonry Infills in Frame Structures

A new macroelement model is presented in this paper for the simulation of the in-plane (IP) and out-of-plane (OOP) response of infilled frames subjected to seismic actions. The model consists of two diagonal, one horizontal, and one vertical struts. Each strut is represented by two fiber-section beam-column elements. The model is able to capture the arching action of the wall under an OOP load as well as the interaction between the IP and OOP actions. Infilled frames: developments in the evaluation of the stiffening effect of infills

In order to consider the modified seismic response of framed structures in the presence of masonry infills, proper models have to be formulated. Because of the complexity of the problem, a careful definition of a diagonal pin-jointed strut, able to represent the horizontal force-interstorey displacement cyclic law of the actual infill, may be a solution. Physical properties of green composites based on poly-lactic acid or Mater-Bi® filled with Posidonia Oceanica leaves

Abstract This work focuses on the evaluation of Posidonia Oceanica leaves as effective reinforcing agent for ecofriendly, fully biodegradable polymer composites. Posidonia leaves were washed, ground and sieved in order to achieve two different size distributions and aspect ratios. Effects of powder concentration and type of resin on the performance of marble composite structures

In this work, we will expose the behaviour of a composite structure reinforced with marble powder. The attention was focused on the effects produced on the physical and mechanical properties due to different kinds of matrix (epoxy and polyester resins) and filler amounts (60%, 70%, 80%). Rheological, static flexural and Izod impact tests have been carried out.
