The efficacy of ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer films (EVOH) incorporating the essential oil components cinnamaldehyde (CINHO), citral (CIT), isoeugenol (IEG), or linalool (LIN) to control growth rate (GR) and production of T-2 and HT-2 toxins by Fusarium sporotrichioides cultured on oat grains under different temperature (28, 20, and 15 °C) and water activity (aw) (0.99 and 0.96) regimes was assayed. GR in controls/treatments usually increased with increasing temperature, regardless of aw, but no significant differences concerning aw were found. Stepping on invisible land: on the importance of communicating the value of soils.

Soils play fundamental roles in the functioning of the Earth's ecosystems. Despite numerous initiatives to protect soils, it continues to be generally perceived as dirt or, at best, the surface we walk on. To better understand soil perception by the public, we conducted a survey with 99 participants from Poland and Brazil. We applied opportunity sampling and conducted semi-structured interviews with 40 respondents from Poland and 30 from Brazil, and 29 unstructured interviews in Brazil. Computational chemistry meets experiments for explaining the geometry, electronic structure, and optical properties of Ca10V6O25

In this paper, we present a combined experimental and theoretical study to disclose, for the first time, the structural, electronic, and optical properties of Ca10V6O25 crystals. The microwave-assisted hydrothermal (MAH) method has been employed to synthesize these crystals with different morphologies, within a short reaction time at 120 °C. First-principle quantum mechanical calculations have been performed at the density functional theory level to obtain the geometry and electronic properties of Ca10V6O25 crystal in the fundamental and excited electronic states (singlet and triplet).
