Chile Revolts: From the Uprisings to the Constitutional Process
2022
It is a warm, austral spring Monday in the Capital of Chile. Metro stations are tingling with students and workers ready to encapsulate themselves in underground trains to commute as usual. The ticket fee has just been raised by 30 pesos. A group of young people decide to protest evading the fare. Placing their hands on the turnstile columns, one by one, they leap over the metal bar. This small gesture of disobedience spreads and intensifies with tremendous speed. On October 18, 2019, the government orders to close the entire Santiago subway. It is the day designated as the incipit of the estallido social, the Chilean social outbreak. This modest pretext is the fuse that set off a far-reach…
Hybris e rivoluzione. Il caso della rivolta cilena
2023
This paper discusses the binomial hybris and revolution. In particular, the question of whether the excessive dominants’ arrogance, who have too much both in material and symbolic terms, is sufficient to explain the deflagration of an insurgency and the interruption of a legal order. The question will be addressed by interweaving the reflections of authors who have discussed this topic with a material collected by the author through a legal-political ethnography conducted in Chile during the revolt that broke out in October 2019 and led to a new constituent phase. Categories and definitions used in this text are partly borrowed from the course devoted to political change and revolution taug…
Richard von Rorty va alla guerra contro i filosofi
2012
The article shows how Clausewitz’s reflections on the nature of war can help us to understand the place of Richard Rorty in contemporary philosophical debate. Rorty’s postmetaphysical philosophy is thought to be an attack against the basic idea that reality ought to correspond to the ideals described by philosophers. Pragmatist tradition allows Rorty to consider philosophy not as epistemology but as a continuous intellectual autobiography.
Richard Rorty non teme l'incertezza
2015

Crisi ecologica e paradigmi securitari
2019
The ecological question can be assumed as one of the discourses where the systemic mutation between the juridical-political subject of liberalism, and the subject of interest of neoliberalism have matured. Starting with the transformations of the security sphere, and the shift of Sovereign/Governmentality nexus, I analyze human security and human resilience paradigms, highlighting the contiguity between ecological and political lexicon. I deal with concepts of risk, agency, and scarcity and, in conclusion, I propose a reading of Arendt’s dimension of dwelling. The concept of World as a dwelling place opens a space, both on the political and the practical side, which could face the complexit…
Introduction: Mediterranean Movements and the Reconfiguration of the Military-Humanitarian Border in 2015
2018
This article deals with the transformations occurred in the government of refugees in the Mediterranean since 2013, when the military-humanitarian operation Mare Nostrum was launched by the European Union. The paper analyses how military and humanitarian practices are entangled in governing refugees and develops the notion of military-humanitarianism. The Mediterranean borderzone has undergone radical reconfigurations over the last few years. Particularly, new technologies of control for strengthening the role of the Mediterranean Sea as a pre-frontier of Europe have been put in place. The production and the declaration of a "refugee crisis" in Europe has contributed to producing important …
Foucault naturalizzato: soggetto, assoggettamento, libertà
2019

Mediterranean Struggles for Movement and the European Government of Bodies: An Interview with Étienne Balibar and Nicholas De Genova
2018
The conversation between Étienne Balibar and Nicholas De Genova (moderated by Glenda Garelli, Alessandra Sciurba, and Martina Tazzioli) engages with the Mediterranean of migration as a multifaceted, productive, and contested space, which can represent a counterpoint to a deep-rooted Eurocentric imaginary. Looking at the Mediterranean as a space produced by the mobility of bodies crossing it and by the combination of different struggles, Balibar and De Genova comment on some of the political movements that have taken center stage in the Mediterranean region in the past few years and suggest that the most important challenge today is to mobilize a "Mediterranean point of view" whereby the pol…
