In this paper, the delay-dependent H"~ filtering problem for a class of continuous-time Markovian jump linear systems with time-varying delay and partially accessible mode information is investigated by an indirect approach. Frequency Determined Homomorphic Unsharp Masking Algorithm on Knee MR Images

A very important artifact corrupting Magnetic Resonance (MR) Images is the RF inhomogeneity, also called Bias artifact. The visual effect produced by this kind of artifact is an illumination variation which afflicts this kind of medical images. In literature a lot of works oriented to the suppression of this artifact can be found. The approaches based on homomorphic filtering offer an easy way to perform bias correction but none of them can automatically determine the cut-off frequency. In this work we present a measure based on information theory in order to find the frequency mentioned above and this technique is applied to MR images of the knee which are hardly bias corrupted.

Effect of the height-to-diameter ratio on the mass transfer and mixing performance of a biotrickling filter

BACKGROUND Biotrickling filters (BTFs) are among the most widely used biological technologies for air pollution control. The pollutant removal rate in BTFs relies to a large extent on its gas–liquid mass transfer performance. Therefore, knowledge of the design parameters affecting the mass transfer and mixing performance of full-scale BTFs is of paramount importance. RESULTS This work showed that the height-to-diameter (H/D) ratio is an important parameter in the design of BTFs devoted to air pollution control. Broadband tuning of a long-cavity all-fiber mode locked Thulium-doped fiber laser using an acousto-optic bandpass filter

A long-cavity passively mode-locked thulium-doped all-fiber laser is reported incorporating a tapered acousto-optic tunable bandpass filter (AOTBF). The operation of the AOTBF relies on the intermodal coupling between core and cladding modes when a flexural acoustic wave propagates along an 80-microm tapered fiber. The filter works in transmission and exhibits a 3-dB bandwidth of 9.02 nm with an insertion loss of 3.4 dB. The laser supports ultrashort pulse generation at a low repetition rate of 784.93 kHz. Optical pulses with 2.43 nm of optical bandwidth and 2.1 ps pulse duration were obtained in a broad tuning range from 1824.77 to 1905.16 nm.

The ideal procedure to start designing an electronic device is to consider the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) from the beginning. Even so, EMC problems can appear afterward, especially when the designed system is interconnected with external devices. Thereby, electromagnetic interferences (EMIs) could be transmitted to our device from power cables that interconnect it with an external power source or are connected to another system to establish wired communication. Transmission properties at microwave frequencies of two-dimensional metallic lattices

The transmission properties of different metallic photonic lattices (square and rectangular) have been experimentally studied. A numerical algorithm based on time domain finite differences has been used for simulating these photonic structures. The introduction of defects in the two-dimensional metallic lattice modifies its transmission spectrum. If metal rods are eliminated from (or added to) the lattice, extremely narrow peaks are observed at some particular frequencies below (or above) the band pass edge. Te-As-Se glass microstructured optical fiber for the middle infrared

International audience; We present the first fabrication, to the best of our knowledge, of chalcogenide microstructured optical fibers in Te-As-Se glass, their optical characterization, and numerical simulations in the middle infrared. In a first fiber, numerical simulations exhibit a single-mode behavior at 3.39 and 9.3 μm, in good agreement with experimental near-field captures at 9.3 μm. The second fiber is not monomode between 3.39 and 9.3 μm, but the fundamental losses are 9 dB/m at 3:39 μm and 6 dB/m at 9.3 μm. The experimental mode field diameters are compared to the theoretical ones with a good accordance.

A Simple “Plastic Bag” Technique for Visible Spectra of Solid Metal Complexes

The techniques commonly used to study the visible spectra of transition metal complexes in the solid state involve diffuse reflectance from the powdered sample or transmission through a mull of the compound in mineral oil on filter paper. Pressed KBr (for anhydrous compounds) and AgCl (for compounds containing water or other highly polar ligands) disk techniques have been used even for low temperature spectra.
