Structural Characterization of Organics Using Manual and Automated Electron Diffraction

2010

In the last decade the importance of transmission electron microscopic studies has become increasingly important with respect to the characterization of organic materials, ranging from small organic molecules to polymers and biological macromolecules. This review will focus on the use of transmission electron microscope to perform electron crystallography experiments, detailing the approaches in acquiring electron crystallographic data. The traditional selected area approach and the recently developed method of automated diffraction tomography (ADT) will be discussed with special attention paid to the handling of electron beam sensitive organic materials.

Total-scattering pair-distribution function of organic material from powder electron diffraction data.

2014

AbstractThis paper shows that pair-distribution function (PDF) analyses can be carried out on organic and organometallic compounds from powder electron diffraction data. Different experimental setups are demonstrated, including selected area electron diffraction and nanodiffraction in transmission electron microscopy or nanodiffraction in scanning transmission electron microscopy modes. The methods were demonstrated on organometallic complexes (chlorinated and unchlorinated copper phthalocyanine) and on purely organic compounds (quinacridone). The PDF curves from powder electron diffraction data, called ePDF, are in good agreement with PDF curves determined from X-ray powder data demonstrat…

Structure analysis of side chain liquid crystal polymer films by means of electron microscopy

1987

Abstract Using the combined techniques of electron diffraction, bright and dark field electron microscopy as well as light microscopy, it has been possible to obtain detailed structural information about the arrangement of the smectic layers in a polymethacrylate side chain liquid crystal polymer with a biphenylester as the mesogenic group.

Metalenses with high-NA, enhanced resolution and apodization

2017

Dielectric microlenses employed in imaging and focusing for optoelectronics are currently prospects to be substituted by metalenses showing an extraordinary optical performance within notably reduced volumes. Here we present some proposals to achieve an enhanced resolution in metallodielectric metasurface-based lenses established on either efficient arrangements with high numerical aperture or spatial filtering enabling to surpass the limit of resolution derived by the Rayleigh criterion.

Laser Beam Induced Current measurements on Dye Sensitized Solar Cells and thin film CIG(S,SE)<inf>2</inf> modules

2017

Calculating the efficiency of a solar cell depends on a precise knowledge of its area. Indeed, the photoresponse uniformity is essential to improve the manufacturing process. In this work we report on Laser Beam Induced Current measurements performed on CIG(S,Se) 2 modules and Dye Sensitized Solar Cells. These measurements, performed via a green and a red HeNe lasers both operating at an optical irradiance of 1 Sun, allowed to obtain an accurate photoresponse map of the specimens and highlighted the non-uniformities with a spatial resolution of 400 µm and 80 µm, respectively.

Long-cavity all-fiber ring laser actively mode locked with an in-fiber bandpass acousto-optic modulator.

2013

We demonstrate low-frequency active mode locking of an erbium-doped all-fiber ring laser. As the mode locker, we used a new in-fiber bandpass acousto-optic modulator showing 74% modulation depth, 3.7 dB power insertion losses, 4.5 nm of optical bandwidth, and 20 dB of nonresonant light suppression. The laser generates 330 ps mode-locked pulses over a 10 ns pedestal, at a 1.538 MHz frequency, with 130 mW of pump power. Fil: Cuadrado Laborde, Christian Ariel. Universidad de Valencia; España. Abrupt-tapered fiber filter arrangement for a switchable multi-wavelength and tunable Tm-doped fiber laser.

2018

A switchable and tunable multi-wavelength Tm-doped fiber laser is successfully demonstrated using a filter constructed with two tapered fiber elements in the cavity. The proposed system design uses a low-cost simple filter that allows stable dual, triple, quadruple, and quintuple-wavelength emission operation in the region around 1.9 μm. In the dual wavelength regime, the laser is capable of independently tuning each wavelength. For switching and tuning, a curvature is applied to the tapered fibers.

Optical thermal filters for eXTP: manufacturing and characterization

2020

In order to ensure the effective detection of X-ray astronomical detectors by blocking ultraviolet, visible and infrared light, adding optical thermal filter in front of the load is an effective method. According to the scientific requirements of eXTP, optical thermal filters with aluminized polyimide (PI) film structure had been designed and tested in this paper, the results of mechanical tests including burst pressure, vibration and acoustic tests, also the transparent properties of optics in UV, Vis and IR lights are presented. The mechanical test results show that the filters for LAD and SFA can't pass the acoustic tests, causing the thickness of PI should be increased or a nickel mesh …

Wide wavelength-tunable passive mode-locked Erbium-doped fiber laser with a SESAM

2021

Abstract In this work we present a simple polarization-maintaining wavelength-tunable passive mode-locked Erbium-doped fiber laser with a semiconductor saturable absorber mirror (SESAM) as a mode locker. The cavity includes a Sagnac interferometer-based fiber optical loop mirror (FOLM) as a wide wavelength-tunable filter. Tunable mode-locking was experimentally achieved in the range of 1543.2 nm to 1569.5 nm by thermally adjustment of FOLM wavelength reflection. The output pulses have a repetition rate of 11.16 MHz with pulse duration about 0.9 ps. The experimental results were confirmed by numerical simulations.

Further experiences on unsteady seepage flow

1973

The present paper describes the results of a study on the unsteady flow in a horizontal homogeneous filter, which is accomplished when the level of the reservoir that recharges the filter is instantly drawn up. This study was carried out at the University of Palermo Institute of Hydraulics as a part of a research program concerning artificial recharge of ground water and the geotechnical problems involving the stability of porous media subject to the variations of surrounding pressures. A numerical procedure, aiming at solving the equation of Boussinesq by a finite difference method, was adopted and an electronic computer was used. A Hele-Shaw filter model was used to carry out several expe…
