Current economic downturn and supply chain: The significance of demand and inventory smoothing

2014

The aim of this article is to analyse and quantify the effects of demand and inventory smoothing into supply-chain performance, facing the extreme volatility and impetuous alteration of the market produced by the current economic recession. To do so, we model a traditional serial three-stage supply chain and we test five settings of order smoothing under two shocks in the market demand, and we measure effects in terms of internal process benefits and customer service level of all supply chain partners. Results show that the implementation of this inventory strategy should be based on reward schemes; in fact a higher level of smoothing can generally improve the performance of the upstream st…

L'originalité de juglar

1966

This is a version, slightly corrected in 2011 with regard to form, of a thèse complémentaire defended at the University of Paris in March 1966 (at the time, writing a "complementary thesis" in a domain adjacent to, but distinct from, economics proper was a requirement added to the doctorate in economics for participating in the national competition to become a university professor in economics). The subject of the thesis, supposedly in the domain of economic history, had been proposed by Professor Jean Lhomme. The contribution of Clément Juglar (1819-1905), whose name has remained associated with the business cycle, was deemed particularly important and original by Joseph Schumpeter in his …

The Effect of Public Subsidies for Formal Care on the Care Provision for Disabled Elderly People in France

2012

The aim of this pap…

Knowledge Brokering in an Era of Communication Visibility

2020

This study presents an analysis of the extent to which enterprise social media (ESM) use enhances visibility of content (message transparency) and connections (network translucence) in organizations, and how this affects knowledge brokering. The findings support the theory of communication visibility by demonstrating that ESM use is associated with perceptions of message transparency and network translucence. Furthermore, the findings suggest that employees, regardless of their position within a network, are provided with a vision advantage and thus have the ability to engage in knowledge brokering. Future work needs to examine the impact of network characteristics on these effects. This a…

贝叶斯因子及其在JASP中的实现

2018

Statistical inference plays a critical role in modern scientific research, however, the dominant method for statistical inference in science, null hypothesis significance testing (NHST), is often misunderstood and misused, which leads to unreproducible findings. To address this issue, researchers propose to adopt the Bayes factor as an alternative to NHST. The Bayes factor is a principled Bayesian tool for model selection and hypothesis testing, and can be interpreted as the strength for both the null hypothesis H0 and the alternative hypothesis H1 based on the current data. Compared to NHST, the Bayes factor has the following advantages: it quantifies the evidence that the data provide for…

Brand impact on purchase intention. An approach in social networks channel

2012

Networks are an exciting new channel that brands should use for promoting a more participatory and proactive context with a user, increasingly elusive and restrictive, that takes decisions based on the impulses generated by networkers. We propose a model adapted to the reality studied and composed by several models and theories that have got widespread support in the literature. In this paper, the goal is threefold, in response to a consumer perspective: (i) measuring the efficiency, in social networks, of the constructs selected  regarding the attitude towards network and the intention to use, (ii) measuring the influence of attitude toward the net in the attitude toward the brand in terms…

Election Campaigning Online

2005

This article presents an integrated quantitative analysis of the functional, formal and content-related aspects of German political party websites during the 2002 National Elections. The analysis is guided by the normalization hypothesis of cyberspace, which infers a transfer of ‘real-world’ features of politics to the Internet. Results provide empirical evidence of a limited normalization in German e-campaigning: indeed, German party websites primarily serve information functions while neglecting interactive features. Yet, no overall gap in professionalism is found between major and minor parties analysed. Finally, online campaigning is dominated by a high level of self-referentiality but…

Exploiting 3D Modelling and Life Cycle Assessment to Improve the Sustainability of Pavement Management

2020

Today road agencies worldwide face difficult decisions for construction, maintenance and rehabilitation of their road infrastructure as they try to balance limited budgets. This is further complicated rising environmental concerns over equipment and techniques used for these practices. This has led agencies to consider alternative approaches for smarter and sustainable pavement asset management systems. This paper considers the use of a low-cost 3D image modelling distress identification and classification proposal for data acquisition and analysis. To establish its environmental friendliness, a case study in Palermo, Italy, is considered wherein a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) exercise is do…
