Corporate tax cuts and business-friendly policies in the UK - A review of electoral arguments during the 2015 legislative campaign

2016

The stance toward big business was a heated topic during Britain’s 2015 legislative campaign that led to the triumphal, albeit slightly unexpected, reelection of David Cameron, as Prime Minister. More profoundly, it raises the issue of the economic impact of corporate tax cuts and the nature of business-friendly policies in the UK. Firstly, we investigate the electoral arguments on both sides of the political spectrum. These discussions are framed within the overarching approach known as supply-side economics, which has been prevalent in English-speaking countries since the neoliberal revolution in the late 1970s. Secondly, we put forward the idea that widening inequalities, as suggested re…

Libéralisation et innovation : faut-il (vraiment) les associer ?

2015

2010

Over the last ten years, real estate prices have risen considerably and accordingly to most observers, this can at least partly be attributed to an insufficient supply, due to local growth control measures. This thesis tries to understand what motivates local authorities implementing such policies. Local politicians are considered as opportunistic and their decision is modelled as the result of a political struggle between different land-related interests. This game for influence mainly opposes the owners of developed and undeveloped land, who find allies amongst local business interests that might form growth or ideas machines. Our first model describes this struggle under different hypoth…

Construction de logements sociaux et stratégies électorales locales,

2013

Our article examines if local incumbents’ choices regarding social housing construction are influenced by strategic electoral considerations, which might foil the French state’s efforts in favour of greater social mixity. By constructing a probabilistic voting model which integrates a partially mobile population, we show that such strategic considerations let the political choices of neighbouring municipalities become interdependent, and that the intensity of the resulting strategic inter-actions varies in function of the local population’s mobility. These propositions are confirmed by our empirical analysis concerning social housing construction in the Greater Lyon region. A local incumben…

And after all, if say was right ? L'offre crée-t-elle sa propre demande ? Keynésiannisme contre "klacissisme"

1995

In a real exchange economy it's quite easy to admit the existence of SAY's law. However, currency has without doubt changed. Is it necessary to reject SAY's law? More than J.M.KEYNES himself, if we believe some of his sucessors it's absolutely certain. Yet, when we study closely modern currency (bank currency) we realize that the economic agentscannot hold it outside the banking system: when they are not consumers on the goods market they are "consumers" on the stock market. As a consequence SA Y's law is confirmed.

Axiomatics and construction of the central place system

1987

The construction of the loschian landscape is a basic element in the Theory of Economic Regions. It is based on an hexagonal lattice and loschian numbers having properties used by DACEY (10,11,12,13) and MARSHALL (16,17,18,19,20). In fact, the former has not tested his model. In this paper our purpose is to prove that DACEY failed to build mathematically the Central Place System, and to propose a new method of construction of the loschian landscape.
