De l'inégalité sociale devant la santé au dualisme sanitaire : le RMI, une réponse adéquate aux besoins de santé des plus défavorisés ?

1993

Literature on household medical expenditure according to socio economiccategories indicates that that disparities in access to health care are no longer a major obstacle to social equality. Nevertheless these surveys do not take into account the dualistic structure of society and therefore do not recognise the changing issues in health and social policy. As regards health policy the issues are set in terms of the exclusion of those individuals who since they live on the fringes of economic activity no longer qualify for Social Security benefits. To give a complete picture of social inequalities it is essential to study this exclusion from health care. By studying the people who are on "RMI"…

Asset Tangibility, information asymmetries and intangibles as determinants of family firms leverage

2022

Using a sample of Spanish tourism small and medium-sized firms, we have tested the impact of family control, publicly-available information and tangibility on financial structure, providing a multi-theoretical model that incorporates contributions from the classical theory of finance, inspired by agency theory, the behavioural theory of the firm and strategic theory. The results point to the need to jointly consider the effects of information transmission practices, asset investment decisions and ownership structures on debt capacity. The results show how family control is associated with propensity to take on debt, so that the desire to maintain social control and socioemotional wealth pre…

Incidence du passage obligatoire aux normes comptables IAS / IFRS sur le risque d'instabilité bancaire

2011

In this thesis, we study the economic consequences, in terms of instability, of the mandatory IAS/IFRS adoption in the banking industry. The thesis is organized as follows. In a first part (Chapter I), we develop a theoretical framework whose purpose is to understand the mechanisms through which the mandatory IAS/IFRS adoption by banks may influence the probability of occurrence of a banking crisis. At this stage, we show that several arguments, derived from the contractual and informational perspectives of accounting, can be mobilized in order to justify the hypothesis that the mandatory IAS/IFRS adoption has a positive or a negative influence on banking stability. The second part of the t…

Neoclassical Convergence Versus Technological Catch-Up : A Contribution for Reaching a Consensus.

2004

http://www.businessperspectives.org/files/ppm/PPM_EN_2004_03pp15_42.pdf; International audience; New macro empirical evidence is provided to assess the relative importance of object andidea gaps in explaining the world income distribution dynamics over a benchmark period of 1960-1985. Results are then extended through 1995. Formal statistical hypothesis tests allow us to discriminatebetween two competing growth models: (i) the standard neoclassical growth model similarto that employed by Mankiw, Romer, and Weil (1992), and (ii) an endogenous growth modelclosely related to the Nelson and Phelps' approach (1966) that emphasizes the importance of technologytransfer in addition to factor accumu…

Nomenclature et régulation médicalisée en médecine ambulatoire

1993

Smarter Teachers, Smarter Pupils? Some New Evidence from Sub-Saharan Africa

2017

Document de travail du BETA, n°2017-35. En ligne sur : http://www.beta-umr7522.fr/productions/publications/2017/2017-35.pdf; We study the effect of teacher subject knowledge on student achievement in mathematics and reading by using a dataset from six Sub-Saharan African countries. By using a difference-indifference between pupils' and teachers' scores in two skills, we are able to avoid potential endogeneity bias. In most estimations, we do not find a significant teacher knowledge effect in most countries. The main reason is teacher absenteeism and the need to focus on core knowledge. Indeed, more knowledgeable teachers improve student learning only if certain conditions are met. For insta…
