AbstractThis paper presents numerical simulations within the frame of the project SERA—AIMS (Seismic Testing of Adjacent Interacting Masonry Structures). The study includes blind pre-diction and post-diction stages. The former was developed before performing the shaking table tests at the laboratory facilities of LNEC (Lisbon), while the latter was carried out once the test results were known. The development and calibration of a three-dimensional (3D) nonlinear Finite Element (FE) model is presented with the aim of investigating the shear behavior of steel-concrete composite beams realized with a steel truss embedded into a concrete core and named Hybrid Steel Trussed-Concrete Beams (HSTCBs). Numerical analysis of the effects of PBO-FRCM confinement on RC columns

This paper presents a finite element (FE) analysis on the behavior of reinforced concrete (RC) squared and rectangular columns strengthened by PBO-FRCM, under axial force and bending moment. The modeling technique adopted for the compressive behavior of confined concrete is previously validated developing FE models for specimens of plain concrete wrapped by PBO-FRCM and comparing the numerical results with those obtained by experimental tests on squared and rectangular confined columns. A two-node finite element for linear magneto-electric laminated timoshenko beams

A new finite element is presented for linear magnetoelectric straight laminated beam subject to the assumptions of quasi-steady electromagnetic state. The mechanical model is based upon Timoshenko beam theory to account for shear deformation influences. The electromagnetic stacking sequence is proved to enter the equivalent elastic problem by affecting both the stiffness properties of the beam, in terms of axial and flexural coupling, and by modifying the mechanical boundary conditions as distributed loads. Settore ING-IND/14 - Progettazione Meccanica E Costruzione Di MacchineAfter a thorough literature search on magnetorheological fluids their behavior and use it has gone to the design of a magnetorheological clutch for motor vehicles. Considering the characteristics of transmitted torque and power the device is dimensioned taking into account the constraints of space of the examined vehicle. Subjecting the device to magnetostatic finite element analysis it was determined the trend of the flow lines of the magnetic field in the gap of fluid and in areas of greater interest calculating the torque transmitted theoretically by the clutch. The performance comparison between a traditional clutch and a MR clutch was also performed pointing out that the MR clutch presents shorter response times with high energy savings. The study carried out shows that the device is well suited to a vehicle with automatic or robotic or otherwise with very short response times but requires a control system for the starting the vehicle.
