Vocabulary learning strategies employed by Finnish high school EFL students
2014
Competitive Advantage through Environmental Responsibility? A Case Study of Finnair
2013
In recent years there has been increasing interest in the environmental impacts of aviation, and some airlines have begun to address this issue more seriously. At the same time competition in the aviation industry has become much tougher. This study focuses on the question whether showing pro-active environmental behaviour could work as a differentiation strategy for airlines which are acting more responsibly, thus helping them to improve their competitiveness. For this purpose one airline showing strong pro-environmental behaviour in recent years was chosen as an example: Finland’s flag carrier, Finnair. This paper presents the results of a questionnaire conducted among 148 Finnair custome…

Attitudes toward sad music are related to both preferential and contextual strategies.
2015
Music-related sadness and its paradoxical pleasurable aspects have puzzled researchers for decades. Previous studies have highlighted the positive effects of listening to sad music and the listening strategies that focus on mood-regulation. The present study explored people’s attitudes toward sad music by focusing on a representative sample of the Finnish population. Three hundred and fifty-eight participants rated their agreement with 30 statements concerning attitudes toward sad music. The ratings were subjected to factor analysis, resulting in 6 factors explaining 51% of the variance (RMSEA = 0.049). The factors were labeled Avoidance, Autobiographical, Revival, Appreciation, Intersubjec…
Inkeriläisten sukupolvet ja kielenkäytön muutokset. Kielenkäyttäjien näkökulma attritioon
2013

The benchmark includes 5539 video files of Finnish Sign Language, ground truth sign spotting results, a tool for assessing the spottings against the ground truth, and a repository for storing information on the results. In addition we will make our sign detection system and results made with it publicly available as a baseline for comparison and further developments. peerReviewed
