Lessons on Marine Protected Area Management in Northern Boreal Regions from the United States and Norway
2017
In comparison to tropical reef systems, relatively few marine protected areas (MPA’s) exist in temperate or subarctic systems (e.g., North Pacific and North Atlantic) where species diversity is lower, abundance of individual species is often higher, and many fish species exhibit large amounts of movement during one or more of their life stages, especially as adults. A review of MPA’s in three northern areas—the Northwest Atlantic, Northeast Atlantic, and the Northeast Pacific—indicates that MPA’s can be useful management tools towards fisheries management and habitat conservation. However, achieving fishery goals, such as sustainable use of the fisheries resources, will depend on population…
Mind the depth: The vertical dimension of a small-scale coastal fishery shapes selection on species, size, and sex in wrasses
2020
Small‐scale fisheries (SSFs) tend to target shallow waters, but the depth distributions of coastal fish can vary depending on species, size, and sex. This creates a scope for a form of fishing selectivity that has received limited attention but can have considerable implications for monitoring and management of these fisheries. We conducted a case study on the Norwegian wrasse fishery, a developing SSF in which multiple species are caught in shallow waters (mean depth = 4.5 m) to be used as cleaner fish in aquaculture. Several of these wrasses have life histories and behaviors that are sensitive to selective fishing mortality, such as sexual size dimorphism, paternal care, and sex change. A…
ANCAMAN DAN KEPUNAHAN BURUNG MAMBRUK POLOS Goura cristata DI BAGIAN TIMUR KEPALA BURUNG (VOGELKOP) IRIAN JAYA BARAT
2008

The three species of “mambruk” (crowned pidgeons) are endemic to New Guinea (Irian Jaya and the Papua Nugini). The species are listed in CITES as vulnerable. In Indonesia the species are protected by law, but in the field they are still being hunted. There fore, the threat and extinction of the species was observed on five location in the Birds Head Region of Papua. The observation indicated thet there was only are location was the estuary of Warmiseru and Suandei Lagoon where the spesies were relativety observed.

The negligence and lazy of the Administration: the greatest danger to the conservation of the unique lagerstätte sites
2019
An example is given of one of the most important sites in the Spanish fossil record, such as the almost a hundred moulds of ancient jellyfish of hydrozoan Medusozoa, Cnidaria, exceptionally preserved in an arkosic greywacke bedding plane of the Corduban/Terreneuvian Epoch (lowermost Cambrian) in the municipal district of Constantina (Seville). In spite of its scientific-patrimonial importance and the fact that it has been brought to the attention of the Andalusian autonomous administration for more than twenty-five years, it has still not been the object of an adequate legal protection figure. This lack of interest or bureaucratic slowness is causing an irreparable loss in many of its eleme…
Turtles on the trash track: loggerhead turtles exposed to floating plastic in the Mediterranean Sea
2019
Loggerhead turtles (Caretta caretta) spend most of their life in large marine areas occupying a variety of habitats where they are exposed to different types of threats. Among these, marine litter is known to pose a risk of entanglement or ingestion. Areas of risk exposure can be identified where the species overlap with litter accumulations, but gathering data on this highly mobile species and marine litter, especially in high sea areas, is challenging. Here we analysed five years of sea turtle and marine litter data collected by a network of research bodies along fixed trans-border transects in the Mediterranean Sea. Ferries were used as observation platforms to gather systematic data on …

Jenis-Jenis Kima dan Kelimpahannya di Perairan Amdui Distrik Batanta Selatan Kabupaten Raja Ampat
2017
The food and parasites of fish in some deep basins of northern L. Päijänne
1982
The composition of the fish stock, food and ‘macroparasites’ were studied in eleven basins (22–100 m) of Lake Jyvasjarvi and North Paijanne in August–September 1976. The fishing was done by means of a series of nets (meshes 15, 21 and 35 mm) laid on the bottom overnight. No fish were found in the two northernmost basins owing to bad oxygen conditions caused by waste waters. Smelt and burbot were the most abundant fish in the catches in other basins but the vendace was rare. Relict crustaceans and some ‘deep water’ copepods (e.g. Heterocope borealis) played an important role in the food of fish in all basins.
