An extensive survey of wild Sicilian oregano was made. A total of 57 samples were collected from various sites, followed by taxonomic characterization from an agronomic perspective. Based on morphological and production characteristics obtained from the 57 samples, cluster analysis was used to divide the samples into homogeneous groups, to identify the best biotypes. All samples were analyzed for their phytochemical content, applying a cascade-extraction protocol and hydrodistillation, to obtain the non volatile components and the essential oils, respectively. Quantitative Structure-Antioxidant Activity Models of Isoflavonoids: A Theoretical Study

Seventeen isoflavonoids from isoflavone, isoflavanone and isoflavan classes are selected from Dalbergia parviflora. The ChEMBL database is representative from these molecules, most of which result highly drug-like. Binary rules appear risky for the selection of compounds with high antioxidant capacity in complementary xanthine/xanthine oxidase, ORAC, and DPPH model assays. Isoflavonoid structure-activity analysis shows the most important properties (log P, log D, pKa, QED, PSA, NH + OH ≈ HBD, N + O ≈ HBA). Cadmium is a serious environmental pollution threats to the planet. Its accumulation in plants affects many cellular functions, resulting in growth and development inhibition, whose mechanisms are not fully understood. However, some fungi forming arbuscular mycorrhizal symbiosis with the majority of plant species have the capacity to buffer the deleterious effect of this heavy metal. When 56 flavonoids, 32 coumarins, five naphthoquinones, 12 anthraquinones and five structurally-related compounds were tested for their antimutagenic potencies with respect to mutagenicities induced by 2-nitrofluorene (2-NF), 3-nitrofluoranthene (3-NFA) and 1-nitropyrene (1-NP) in Salmonella typhimurium TA98 distinct structure-activity relationships were detected. Antibacterial Activity of Flavonoids Against Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus strains

An experimental and theoretical study was performed on the anti-staphylococcal activity of 18 natural and synthetic flavonoids against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus strains. The analysed flavonoids belong to three well-differentiated structural patterns: chalcones, flavanones and flavones. In this study, green and efficient deep eutectic solvent-based negative pressure cavitation-assisted extraction (DES-NPCE) followed by macroporous resin column chromatography was developed to extract and separate four main isoflavonoids, i.e. prunetin, tectorigenin, genistein and biochanin A from Dalbergia odorifera T. Chen leaves. The extraction procedure was optimized systematically by single-factor experiments and a Box-Behnken experimental design combined with response surface methodology. Both the estrogen receptor (ER) alpha and beta isoforms are expressed in the endothelium. The ER beta has been assigned a crucial role in normal vascular wall function. Identification and Quantification of Phenolic Compounds in White Wines From the Apold Vineyard

Abstract Wines contain a wide range of aromatic compounds, each having its share in the characterization of the end product. This paper aims at highlighting the phenolic compounds that are present in three types of wine from the Apold Vineyard, compounds that have been determined by modern chromatographic methods. Anthocyanins, flavans, flavones and flavonoids, phenolic acids and microphenolic compounds have been determined in three wines: Pinot gris, Neuburger and Furmint. The results have led to the characterization of these wines and their classification according to the parameters acknowledged by the international authorities.
