Elastic properties of DNA linked flexible magnetic filaments.

Elastic properties of magnetic filaments linked by DNA in solutions of univalent and bivalent salts with different pH values are investigated through their deformation in an external field. A strong dependence of the bending modulus in bivalent salt solution on the pH is shown. Experimental results are interpreted on the basis of the magnetic elastica.

Biodegradable thermoplastic elastomers are attractive for application in cardiovascular tissue construct development due to their amenability to a wide range of physical property tuning. For heart valve leaflets, while low flexural stiffness is a key design feature, control of this parameter has been largely neglected in the scaffold literature where electrospinning is being utilized. Sepiolite-reinforced epoxy nanocomposites: Thermal, mechanical, and morphological behavior

A bisphenol A-based epoxy resin was modified with pristine sepiolite and an organically surface-modified sepiolite and thermally cured using two different curing agents: an aliphatic and a cycloaromatic diamine. The nanocomposites were characterized by dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), rheology, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and electron microscopy. The initial sepiolite–epoxy mixtures show a better dispersion for the sepiolite-modified system that forms a percolation network structure. Mechanical properties have also been determined.
