Guided flows in coronal magnetic flux tubes

There is evidence for coronal plasma flows to break down into fragments and to be laminar. We investigate this effect by modeling flows confined along magnetic channels. We consider a full MHD model of a solar atmosphere box with a dipole magnetic field. We compare the propagation of a cylindrical flow perfectly aligned to the field to that of another one with a slight misalignment. We assume a flow speed of 200 km/s, and an ambient magnetic field of 30 G. We find that while the aligned flow maintains its cylindrical symmetry while it travels along the magnetic tube, the misaligned one is rapidly squashed on one side, becoming laminar and eventually fragmented because of the interaction and…

Background Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TC) aetiology has not been completely understood yet. One proposed pathogenic mechanism was coronary microvascular dysfunction (MVD). This study compared coronary flow and myocardial perfusion in patients with TC, microvascular angina (MVA), and a control group (CG). Methods Out of 42 consecutive patients presented to our centre with TC from 2013 to 2017; we retrospectively selected 27 patients. Aims High-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) is inversely associated with cardiovascular (CV) events and thus an attractive therapeutic target. However, in spite of marked elevations in HDL-C, the first cholesterol transport protein (CETP) inhibitor torcetrapib raised blood pressure (BP), impaired endothelial function, and increased CV mortality and morbidity. Bimodal Oscillation Frequencies of Blood Flow in the Inflammatory Colon Microcirculation

Rhythmic changes in blood flow direction have been described in the mucosal plexus of mice with acute colitis. In this report, we studied mice with acute colitis induced either by dextran sodium sulfate or by trinitrobenzenesulfonic acid. Both forms of colitis were associated with blood flow oscillations as documented by fluorescence intravital videomicroscopy. The complex oscillation patterns suggested more than one mechanism for these changes in blood flow. By tracking fluorescent nanoparticles in the inflamed mucosal plexus, we identified two forms of blood flow oscillations within the inflammatory mouse colon. The effect of hyperthermia on microcirculatory and metabolic parameters in s.c. DS-sarcomas of different sizes on the hind foot dorsum of SD-rats was investigated. Hyperthermia was carried out using a novel water-filtered, infrared-A radiation technique. Heating was performed at a rate of 0.5 degrees C/min until 44 degrees C was achieved in the tumour centre, which was maintained for 60 min. Using a multichannel laser Doppler flowmeter, red blood cell flux could be assessed continuously and at several sites within the tumour tissue simultaneously. Intraoperative monitoring of cerebral blood flow during ventricular shunting in hydrocephalic pediatric patients.

Several studies have demonstrated lowered cerebral blood flow (CBF) in patients with hydrocephalus and symptoms of raised intracranial pressure. Ventricular shunting in such cases permits a sudden increase in CBF. The pathophysiology of functional brain deficit secondary to hydrocephalus is little understood. Improvement of the patient's clinical status after drainage of CSF suggests that cerebral dysfunction is not necessarily due to permanent brain damage. Mediator-Induced Changes in Macromolecular Permeability in the Rat Mesenteric Microcirculation

An intravital fluorescence microscopic method for measurement of changes in macromolecular permeability has been established in the mesenterial microcirculation of the rat. After exteriorization of the fat-free distal part of the ileal mesentery, a 1-hr period of stabilization was followed by the injection of FITC-labeled macromolecules. Five minutes later, histamine, leukotriene B4, or leukotriene C4 was topically applied to the tissue by means of a micromanipulator. Areas of 1 mm2 were videotaped with a SIT camera. The Long-Term Effect of Sevoflurane on Neuronal Cell Damage and Expression of Apoptotic Factors After Cerebral Ischemia and Reperfusion in Rats

We investigated the long-term effects of sevoflurane on histopathologic injury and key proteins of apoptosis in a rat hemispheric ischemia/reperfusion model. Sixty-four male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned to Group 1 (fentanyl and N2O/O2; control) and Group 2 (2.0 vol% sevoflurane and O2/air).
