Experimental investigation on turbulent structures and sediment transport
2011
Effect of the submerged vegetation distribution on flow characteristics and lateral dispersion: Experimental analysis at the apex section of a meande…
2020
Understanding of how the vegetation distribution influences flow patterns and turbulence structure is extremely important to analyse environmental processes as the sediment transport and the mixing of transported quantities. In the present paper attention is focused on the effect of flexible vegetation on flow characteristics and dispersion processes at the apex section of a large-amplitude meandering bend. The analysis is conducted with the aid of data collected in a laboratory meandering flume both in the absence of vegetation on the bed and in the presence of real and flexible vegetation on the bed. Results show that the presence of vegetation affects both the lateral dispersion coeffici…
The effect of a failure and submaximal blood flow restriction resistance exercise protocol on changes in muscle size, strength and swelling
2016
Masteroppgave i idrettsvitenskap - Universitetet i Agder 2016 Introduction: Blood flow restricted resistance exercise (BFRRE) can induce rapid increases in muscle size, strength and swelling. No previous research has investigated the importance of conducting BFRRE to voluntary failure and few studies has been carried out to investigate associations between swelling and muscle size. Therefore, the aim of the present study was twofold (1) compare changes in muscle size and strength between a failure (FA) and submaximal (SU) BFRRE protocol (2) investigate associations between swelling and muscle size. Methods: Seventeen untrained men had their legs randomized to FA and SU protocols. The interv…
The two-fluid extended model of superfluid helium
2019
In this paper we perform the first numerical comparison between the two main existing models of superfluid helium: the two-fluid model proposed by Landau and the one-fluid extended model proposed from the extended thermodynamics. The numerical experiments in this paper regard the profiles of the so-called normal and superfluid components in 2D counterflow turbulence.

Flown kokeminen työelämän tiimeissä
2012
Tämän tutkimuksen tavoitteena oli selvittää, miten flow ilmenee tiimeissä, millaisena flow koetaan, mitkä seikat flown kokemiseen ovat yhteydessä tiimissä ja mitä flow-kokemuksista mahdollisesti seuraa tiimissä. Tutkimuksessa näitä osa-alueita selvitettiin tarkastelemalla työelämän tiimeissä työskennelleiden tai työskentelevien työntekijöiden kokemuksia tästä ilmiöstä. Kokemuksia pyrittiin kartoittamaan tulkitsemalla laadullisella teemakirjoittamisen menetelmällä kerättyjä kertomuksia. Aineiston analysoinnissa hyödynnettiin teemoittelua. Analysoitava aineisto koostui kolmestatoista kokemuksia kuvaavasta vastauksesta, joista poimittiin kaikki flow-kokemuksia kuvaavat maininnat. Nämä maininna…

Role of vegetation on flow hydrodynamics and erosion processes

ANALYSIS OF VELOCITY FIELD AND TURBULENCE CHARACTERISTICS OF FLOW IN A VEGETATED LABORATORY FLUME
2011
Vegetation altering hydrodynamic conditions of an open channel flow controls the exchanges of sediment, nutrients and contaminants. Thus, the knowledge of the hydraulic characteristics of flow over vegetation is very important to support the management of fluvial processes. But, the analysis of the hydrodynamic conditions is complex because vegetation is flexible in varying degrees and it oscillates in the flow changing position. Furthermore, because of temporal changing of roughness due to natural vegetative growth, the response of vegetation to the flow can change in time. Many theoretical and experimental investigations have been performed in order to analyze both the mean flow and turbu…
Log velocity profile and bottom displacement for a flow over a very flexible submerged canopy
2007
Management of shallow lagoons and salt marsh environments usually requires use of numerical models in order to understand the hydrodynamic characteristics of these basins. In order for these models to give reliable results one has to have good knowledge of the interaction between the flow and the aquatic vegetation, which strongly alters the hydrodynamic characteristics. Many experimental and theoretical studies are available in the technical literature, but, because of the very different vegetation and flow characteristics, they do not yet allow one to have a clear and general knowledge of the phenomena, in terms of both flow resistance and velocity distribution. The latter is very importa…
