In this paper, we propose a structured additive regression (STAR) model for modeling the occurrence of a disease in fields or nurseries. The methodological approach involves a Gaussian field (GF) affected by a spatial process represented by an approximation to a Gaussian Markov random field (GMRF). This modeling allows the building of maps with prediction probabilities regarding the presence of a disease in plants using Bayesian kriging. The advantage of this modeling is its computational benefit when compared with known spatial hierarchical models and with the Bayesian inference based on Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) methods. An efficient and versatile implementation of offline multiple hypothesis tracking with Algorithm X for optimal association search was developed using Python. The code is intended for scientific applications that do not require online processing. Directed graph framework is used and multiple scans with progressively increasing time window width are used for edge construction for maximum likelihood trajectories. Determination of the Soret coefficient of magnetic particles in a ferrofluid from the steady and unsteady part of the separation curve

Experiments on the particle separation in a vertical thermodiffusion column are used to investigate the separation (Soret effect) in ferrofluids. The use of a two-sectional column with internal walls of low thermal capacity allows analyzing the initial part of the unsteady separation curves as well as the steady state regime. The Soret coefficient calculated from the measurements of the separation dynamics agrees well with the one found from the steady separation limit reached in long-time experiments especially if the solutal buoyancy is low.

An experimental and numerical study of flow and heat transfer was conducted for a crossed-corrugated geometry, representative of compact heat exchangers under transitional and weakly turbulent conditions. Three-dimensional numerical predictions were obtained by a finite volume method using a variety of approaches ranging from laminar flow assumptions to standard and low-Reynolds number k-e turbulence models, direct simulation, and large-eddy simulation. Abstract The study deals with the flow resistance and heat transport properties of woven and knitted wire gauzes stacked in a tubular apparatus. The experimental programme included flow resistance and heat transfer experiments performed for air flow ( Re = 2–300) using three woven gauzes and one knitted gauze. A b s t r a c t. The aim of this work is to present a fast and cheap method for high-resolution mapping of calcic horizons in vineyards based on geoelectrical proximal sensing. The study area, 45 ha located in southern Sicily (Italy), was characterized by an old, partially dismantled marine terrace and soils with a calcic horizon at different depths. The geoelectrical investigation consisted of a survey of the soil electrical resistivity recorded with the Automatic Resistivity Profiling-03 sensor.
