Near-dissociation photoassociative production of deeply bound NaCs molecules

We demonstrate that a photoassociation resonance detuned less than a wave number below the Cs 6 {sup 2}P{sub 3/2} atomic line can be used to create a deeply bound molecular sample of ultracold polar NaCs. We assign 1 {sup 1}{Sigma}{sup +} (v=4,5,6,11,19) vibrational levels utilizing a pulsed depletion spectroscopic method (scanning {approx}700 cm{sup -1} at a time) in which we observe the 1 {sup 1}{Sigma}{sup +}{yields}2 {sup 1}{Sigma}{sup +}-1 {sup 3{Pi}} vibrational progression. Theoretical study of energy transfer in Rb(7S) + Rb(5S) and Rb(5D) + Rb(5S) collisions

We present results of theoretical studies of the non-resonant excitation transfer in Rb(7S) + Rb(5S) and Rb(5D) + Rb(5S) collisions at thermal collision energies. Rb2 adiabatic molecular terms correlating with the 5S+7S, 5S+5D and 5P+5P states of separated atoms were calculated for internuclear distances R > 20 a.u. using asymptotic approximation. Mechanisms of collisional population and quenching of the 5D state were treated on the basis of the computed molecular terms, and the respective cross-sections were calculated. Theoretical cross-sections are in good agreement with the experimental values at thermal collision energies (\(\) K).
Photophysical behavior of norharmane related to proximity effect

Abstract Solvent and temperature effects of fluorescence and its polarization characteristics for norharmane were studied. From the results obtained it is concluded that the fluorescent state changes from the φφ ∗ -type in a polar solvent (EPA) to nφ ∗ -type in a nonpolar solvent (MC), and also that lowest singlet excited states (φφ ∗ -type and nφ ∗ -type) interact by vibronic coupling. In the nonpolar solvent (MC) the lowest singlet excited states are very close in energy and consequently the vibronic coupling is stronger. The Pierre Auger Observatory is a detector for ultra-high energy cosmic rays. It consists of a surface array to measure secondary particles at ground level and a fluorescence detector to measure the development of air showers in the atmosphere above the array. The ‘‘hybrid” detection mode combines the information from the two subsystems. We describe the determination of the hybrid exposure for events observed by the fluorescence telescopes in coincidence with at least one water-Cherenkov detector of the surface array. The Pierre Auger Observatory is a hybrid detector for ultra-high energy cosmic rays. It combines a surface array to measure secondary particles at ground level together with a fluorescence detector to measure the development of air showers in the atmosphere above the array. Although imatinib mesylate (IM) has revolutionized the treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), some patients develop resistance with progression of leukemia. Alternative or additional targeting of signaling pathways deregulated in bcr-abl-driven CML cells may provide a feasible option for improving clinical response and overcoming resistance. AbstractCryptogein is a protein secreted by the phytopathogenic pseudo-fungus, Phytophthora cryptogea. It is a basic 10 kDa hydrophilic protein having a hydrophobic pocket and three disulfide bridges. These common features with sterol carrier proteins led us to investigate its possible sterol transfer activity using the fluorescent sterol, dehydroergosterol. The results show that cryptogein has one binding site with strong affinity for dehydroergosterol. Moreover, this protein catalyzes the transfer of sterols between phospholipidic artificial membranes. In this work we analyze the pigments used in the decoration of red and yellow motifs present in the portable art of the Parpallo Cave (Gandia, Spain), one of the most important Palaeolithic sites in the Spanish Mediterranean region. Energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (EDXRF) and spectrophotometry in the visible region (CIEL*a*b*color coordinates and spectral reflectance curves) were used to perform in situ fast analyses of the red and yellow motifs with portable equipment and to characterize their elemental composition and their colorimetric perception, respectively.
