Descending Connections from the Brainstem to the Spinal Cord in the Electric Fish Eigenmannia
1990
The descending connections from the brainstem to the spinal cord in Eigenmannia sp. were demonstrated using the horseradish peroxidase (HRP) technique. The spinal cord was transecte
Recent advances of electrochemical and optical biosensors for detection of C-reactive protein as a major inflammatory biomarker
2020
Abstract Early detection of inflammatory mediators including C-reactive protein (CRP) is of great diagnostic importance in many human diseases. CRP elevates very fast in conditions such as tissue injuries, infections, cancers, and renal and cardiovascular diseases. Conventional techniques for detecting CRP are based on antigen–antibody, agglutination, and precipitation reactions. Newer methods based on immunoturbidimetry and immunonephelometry are also time-consuming and relatively expensive. For solving these problems, highly efficient techniques based on CRP-biosensors have been introduced. Here, our aim was to summarize the features of recent biosensors for detection of CRP in biological…
Singlet and triplet energy transfers in tetra-(meso-truxene)zinc(II)- and tetra-(meso-tritruxene)zinc(II) porphyrin and porphyrin-free base dendrimer…
2011
The synthesis, optical properties, and energy transfer features of four dendrimers composed of meso-tetrasubstituted zinc(II) porphyrin (ZnP) or a free base (P) central core, where the substituents are four truxene (Tru) or four tritruxene dendrons (TriTru), TruP, TriTruP, TruZnP, and TriTruZnP, are reported. Selective excitation of the truxene donors results in a photoinduced singlet energy transfer from the truxenes to the porphyrin acceptor. The rates for singlet energy transfer (k(ET)), evaluated from the change in the fluorescence lifetime of the donors (Tru and TriTru) in the presence and absence of the acceptor (P or ZnP) for TruP, TruZnP, TriTruP, and TriTruZnP, are 5.9, 1.2, 0.87, …
Rational Design of Latent Fluorophores from Water-Soluble Hydroxyphenyltriazine Dyes Suitable for Lipase Sensing
2015
The phenol residue of water‐soluble 2‐(2′‐hydroxy‐5′‐dimethylaminobenzyl)‐4,6‐dimethylamino‐1,3,5‐triazine is masked by an enzyme‐labile protecting group constructed with a self‐immolative para‐hydroxybenzyl alcohol. The fluorescence of the dyes is restored with lipases under physiological conditions without aggregation or precipitation of the fluorescent dyes. Derivatives of 2‐(2′‐hydroxy‐5′‐dimethylaminobenzyl)‐4,6‐dimethylamino‐1,3,5‐triazine were synthesized by an original multistep protocol that afforded, after quaternization of the N,N‐dimethylaminobenzyl moiety, water‐soluble fluorescent dyes. These fluorophores exhibited excited‐state intramolecular proton transfer and large Stokes …
Surface Modification of Porous Polyethylene Implants with an Albumin-Based Nanocarrier-Release System
2021
Background: Porous polyethylene (PPE) implants are used for the reconstruction of tissue defects but have a risk of rejection in case of insufficient ingrowth into the host tissue. Various growth factors can promote implant ingrowth, yet a long-term gradient is a prerequisite for the mediation of these effects. As modification of the implant surface with nanocarriers may facilitate a long-term gradient by sustained factor release, implants modified with crosslinked albumin nanocarriers were evaluated in vivo. Methods: Nanocarriers from murine serum albumin (MSA) were prepared by an inverse miniemulsion technique encapsulating either a low- or high-molar mass fluorescent cargo. PPE implants …

Identification of local and allochthonous flint artefacts from the Middle Palaeolithical site ‘Abrigo de la Quebrada’ (Chelva, Valencia, Spain) by ma…
2015
This work summarizes the characterization of flint artefacts from the Middle Palaeolithic site ‘Abrigo de la Quebrada’ (Chelva, Valencia, Spain) and flint geological samples collected in the Chelva area. Additionally, some flint artefacts located outside this geographical zone were also analysed and compared with the samples from the Abrigo de la Quebrada site. Flint samples have been studied using methods of macroscopic description and physicochemical analysis [energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (EDXRF) and X-ray diffraction (XRD)]. Multivariate statistical analysis of the EDXRF data and the determination of the crystalline index of quartz, obtained from the XRD patterns, ar…
Immunological and ultrastructural characterization of spirotrichonymphid flagellates from Reticulitermes grassei and R. flavipes (syn. R. santonensis…
2006
AbstractFive species of spirotrichonymphids representing three genera have been studied by light and immunofluorescence microscopy, and by transmission electron microscopy. The genus Spirotrichonympha, represented by S. flagellata from Reticulitermes grassei, is characterized by a compound axostyle composed of several fibers or subaxostyles. The genus Spironympha, represented by S. kofoidi from Reticulitermes flavipes (syn. R. santonensis) and by the two new species S. verticis and S. lanceata, is characterized by flagellar lines restricted to the anterior area and a simple, tubular axostyle. Spironympha verticis and S. lanceata are mainly distinguished by ultrastructural details of their f…

Selektivittsstudien: OH-, NH- und SH-gruppenspezifische Reagentien - ihre Anwendung in der organischen Analytik und als Schutzgruppen in der Synthese

Selectivity: OH-, NH- and SH-Groupspecific Reagents. The Application in Organic Analysis and as Protective Groups Phosphylhalides and -pseudohalides R1R2P(O)X (X = Cl, F, CN, N3, OC6H4NO2(p)) reactdepending on X- with a different selectivity with OHNH- and SH-groups. Vinylsulfones ArSO2CH = CH2 are SH-selective. Silanes R3SiH are OH-selective. By exchange of one ligand bound on P, SO2 or Si by the 5-dimethylamino resp. the 5-methoxynaphthalinogroup reagents are formed, which combine group selectivity with fluorescence. The fluorescence is quenched if a ligand or the leaving group is substituted by a NO2-group. The fluorescence appears again if after the group selective fixation the ligand w…
